Jean-Michel Basquiat is considered to be one of America’s most influential Modern artists. Through his definitive style, the artist explored a new genre of expression. Basquiat eventually made his way to fame during the 1980s by challenging social perceptions of race, poverty, and politics through his work. New Haven Auctions’ upcoming Antiques from Estates & Collections auction will include a painting from Jean-Michel Basquiat, executed in 1982.
Another item available in the sale is an 18th-century pewter charger marked by Henry Will. Along with his family, Will was one of the most famous makers of pewter items. The piece combines both quality and design. Other featured items include a sculpture of a blind Lady Justice. This figurine was first introduced in the mid-16th century and has since been used as a symbol of impartial fairness. In the sculpture, the lady appears to be balancing a scale; the sword held in her right hand symbolizes enforcement and respect. View the full listings and register to bid online on Bidsquare
