New York City Estate Auction

This January , Showplace Antique + Design Center will present jewelry, gemstones, and fine art in the upcoming New York City Estate Auction. The event is led by pieces from artists such as Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt. Representing Picasso in this auction will be an etching titled Dormeuse Et Sculptures. 

Rembrandt van Rijn is best known for balancing the interplay of light and shade in his artworks. According to Britannica, “He favoured an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty.” One of Rembrandt’s works from his collection of portraits is displayed in the sale. Executed circa 1635, Rembrandt’s etching depicts a bearded man in a high fur cap. Also available are jewelry pieces by Chanel and Christian Marie Marc Lacroix, to name a few. Chanel’s Runway convertible pistol necklace/belt from 2001 Autumn Collection is among the highlighted lots. This piece is designed with woven leather and gold-tone chain.
