Ernest Trova was a sculptor and Pop artist who rose to fame during the 1960s for his series of sculptures, prints, and paintings titled Falling Man. A self-taught artist, Trova worked as a window dresser in his early years. Inspired by the works of artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Francis Bacon, he was equally fascinated by the mannequins at the department store where he worked. His series “… about man at his most imperfect” depicts human figures without arms. The upcoming auction, presented by Akiba Antiques, presents a selection of Trova’s figurines. Featured among the lots is a stainless steel sculpture titled Table Man. The Stainless Study Man and the Stainless Flowing Man are other notable works from the series.
