“I paint many paintings that tell me slowly that I have something inside of me that is just bursting, twisting, sticking, spilling over to get out,” Bob Thompson is quoted by the Minneapolis Museum of Art. The African-American figurative painter applied unnatural shades to form distorted human, animal, and phantom figures. A painting by Thompson is one of the highlighted lots in the upcoming sale presented by Brunk Auctions. Despite his short career, Thompson led an important role in the history of art. Unlike other artists of his generation, Thompson dominated Abstract art while adapting its gestures and expressive use of color to form his own style.
The collection also highlights decorative art from Tiffany Studios, including a 20th-century leaded glass and bronze table lamp. With a dragonfly design against a solid green background on the shade, the lamp is mounted on a lily pad base. It has an original bronze heat cap as well. Another featured item in this event is Will Henry Stevens’ pastel work titled Blue Abstract. Born in 1881, Stevens was an American Impressionist. His work has been featured in several key art galleries and museums, including the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Art. Register to bid and view all the available lots on Bidsquare.
