By the 1930s, Disney’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Clarabelle Cow were made into collectible dolls, puppets, and figurines. The characters were featured on lunch boxes, handkerchiefs, and backpacks as well. Whitley’s Auctioneers, in their upcoming No Reserve Discovery Auction, will present a selection of Disneyana figurines, paintings, and collectibles. Rising to the top of the sale is a limited edition Mickey & Minnie Mouse serigraph by Ron Dias. The animator was hired by Disney Studios in 1956 after winning a nationwide stamp contest.
A pair of Native American warrior dolls are also highlighted. Made by Kirby Justin Ramos, a woman and an older man stand next to each other. The dolls rest against wooden poles with sculpted clay faces and natural hair. Others lot of interest include a large vase by Doulton Burslem. Founded in 1882, Doulton & Co. manufactured stoneware and earthenware. The present lot has a gilt decoration of flowers, leaves, and arabesques in the Spanish style.
