Emporium Auctions

From French sculptor Eugène Delaplanche, who created works such as Eve After the Fall (1869) and Maternal Instruction (1875), comes a patinated bronze sculpture titled La Violoniste. The detailed piece shows a musician playing her instrument. Signed by the artist, the item is featured in the upcoming Emporium Auctions sale, presented by Brunk Auctions. 

An unsigned portrait of a gentleman holding a book (dated 1665) is also a featured lot. It likely belongs to a European Continental school. Other available oil paintings include a French portrait of a noblewoman in a red dress and a British painting of three spaniels. A noteworthy piece showing cows standing in water is by Francis E. Jamieson. The Scottish artist was best known for his landscapes of Scotland’s Highlands and Loch mountains. 

Also included in this auction is a chrome yellow sofa that stands on lions paw feet with cornucopia carved arms. Its origin is not known but the piece comes from the collection of Anthony Baratta. Considered one of America’s most celebrated and respected interior designers, Baratta received Benjamin Moore’s coveted Hue Award for his lifetime achievement in design. Other items, such as assorted pieces of Paul Revere sterling flatware, Indian rugs, Chinese parrots, and a pre-Columbian bird whistle, are also listed in the auction.
