Iranian-American Abstract artist Masoud Yasami does not associate himself with any specific artistic group. Rather, his multi-dimensional artworks often experiment with space, color, illusion, balance, and chaos. As the artist states, “For many years I have dealt with gravitational force as the drama in my work; for example creating the illusion of forcing a rod to bend or a sphere to fall out of its position of balance and harmony.” An oil painting from Yasami is among the leading lots of the upcoming Antiquities | Asian | Ethnographic Art event, presented by Artemis Gallery. Titled Composition with an Open Door, the piece shows cloudy skies, a flowing waterfall, two overlapping rods, a fern leaf’s silhouette, and a lily.
Other notable lots include a painting titled Horses, Swensen Ranch, Oahu, Hawaii by William Draper. Though best known for his portraits, including one depicting John F. Kennedy, Draper was inclined toward landscapes due to his great interest in nature. Bidders can also consider an Egyptian canopic box in this auction. Hand-carved from cedar wood, the box features five mummiform figures. The lid has a polychrome Ba bird with a giltwood sun disk.
