Balla first developed an interest in visual art while working in a lithograph printing shop at the age of nine. The upcoming Modern & Contemporary Art Auction, presented by Finarte, will feature an etching and aquatint titled Affetti by Balla. The offered portrait shows the influence of the Italian Divisionists on the artist. Another highlight is a Cossack color screenprint titled Bather by Giorgio de Chirico. The painting uses pastel colors and curves to deliver the sensation of the shown woman’s skin. Alighiero Fabrizio Boetti was known for his works combining different cultures and disciplines. Also known as Alighiero e Boetti, his vision brought together contrasting elements, including embroidery and geography. Classificazione dei Mille fiumi Piu lunghi del mondo, meaning Classification of the Thousand Longest Rivers in the World, is a substantial artwork by Boetti available in this auction. Important Modern, Post-War, and Contemporary Art

August Sander's Citizens of the Twentieth Century photography series captured individuals from different social classes and all walks of life. Sander gave particular focus to the social status of his subjects, making his images a significant record of German life between 1911 and 1933. The conceptual basis of his project was enhanced by his adoption of a minimalistic perspective and natural light. These elements became the artist’s signature as he put his lens to work profiling society. A 1928 photograph of a boy, titled Bricklayer, is available in the upcoming Important Modern, Post-War, and Contemporary Art event, presented by Revere Auctions.  Also available in this sale is the work of French artist Eugène Leroy, who was discovered during the Neo-Expressionist wave of the early 1980s. Leroy was particularly known for his expressive paintings and thick impasto surfaces. Adding layers upon layers of paint, the primary subject of his works was often indistinguishable. An oil painting by Jean Dubuffet is also featured. Inspired by the Tachisme style of Jean Fautrier, Dubuffet began to apply a similar approach to his own pieces. South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art

Vasudeo S. Gaitonde was a member of India’s Progressive Artists' Group, a movement of artistic reinvention based in Bombay during the mid-20th century. After his association with the Progressive Artists' Group, Gaitonde was introduced to the Indian miniature watercolor technique by Shankar B. Palsikar. Along with his study of traditional Indian painting techniques, Gaitonde was also influenced by the work of the German Expressionist Paul Klee, who shaped his artistic style during the 1950s and early 1960s. An oil painting by Gaitonde will be offered in the upcoming South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art Auction, presented by Christie’s. The untitled piece was painted in shades of light blue, aqua, and green.  Work from another member of the Progressive Artists' Group is among the highlights of the sale. Sayed Haider Raza was a co-founder of the artistic collective. One goal of the movement was to reject the influences of European Realism—which was the leading style in Indian academic art at the time. As he was exposed to Modernism, Raza’s early landscapes moved towards abstraction. Also featured in the sale is a work by Narayan Shridhar Bendre. Known for his persistent experimentation, Bendre pushed the boundaries of arts and crafts in the 1950s. Explore the full listings and register to bid online by visiting Christie’s.
