The acrylic on giclée painting is a modified version of da Vinci’s work, with the addition of a pronounced frown and a hat. As a painter, Yu has been an important figure in China’s Political Pop Art movement.

Works from Ding Yi, Zhan Wang, KAWS, and Walasse Ting are also featured. In 1999, KAWS visited Japan, where he created his first signature Companion. The recurring character’s eyes are crossed out and his shoulders are perpetually slumped. The available 2011 Companion is made entirely of wood. Important Modern, Post-War, and Contemporary Art

Hiroshi Sugimoto Seascapes Photograph Mirtoan Se

August Sander’s Citizens of the Twentieth Century photography series captured individuals from different social classes and all walks of life. Sander gave particular focus to the social status of his subjects, making his images a significant record of German life between 1911 and 1933. The conceptual basis of his project was enhanced by his adoption of a minimalistic perspective and natural light. These elements became the artist’s signature as he put his lens to work profiling society. A 1928 photograph of a boy, titled Bricklayer, is available in the upcoming Important Modern, Post-War, and Contemporary Art event, presented by Revere Auctions.

Also available in this sale is the work of French artist Eugène Leroy, who was discovered during the Neo-Expressionist wave of the early 1980s. Leroy was particularly known for his expressive paintings and thick impasto surfaces. Adding layers upon layers of paint, the primary subject of his works was often indistinguishable. An oil painting by Jean Dubuffet is also featured. Inspired by the Tachisme style of Jean Fautrier, Dubuffet began to apply a similar approach to his own pieces. Ancient and XIX Century Drawings

LOUIS CAROGIS DIT CARMONTELLE (PARIS 1717-1806)

Guercino’s The Adoration of the Magi was once believed to be lost. Now, it is a featured piece in the upcoming drawings auction, presented by Christie’s in late March. The drawing depicts the biblical Nativity scene as the Magi approach the Holy Family. In a 19th-century catalog, the drawing was misattributed to another artist, leading to years of confusion.

The auction also features several drawings by Simon Vouet. Influenced by Caravaggio while working with him in Italy, Vouet was particularly inspired by Caravaggio’s use of light. Vouet eventually returned to France to become the first painter of Louis XIII. Bidders will find two portraits by Vouet in this sale, one depicting Cardinal Jules Mazarin and the other of an unidentified 75-year-old man. The lot essay from Christie’s notes that Vouet depicted the religious figure less formally than similar works. Many of Cardinal Mazarin’s other portraits show him clutching a book and wearing his full cardinal attire. In contrast, the Vouet piece shows Mazarin wearing a simple cassock and grabbing its cord. Although the identity of the elderly man in the other Vouet piece is unknown, there are some indications that he was part of the king’s court. Vouet often painted subjects of differing ranks, from lords to poets to perfumers.

A piece by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo rounds out the highlighted lots. In the 18th century, Tiepolo gained partons from around the world who admired his Rococo style. Included in this event is a drawing of the Holy Family, one of 70 depictions Tiepolo created on the same subject. Christie’s notes that this drawing was most likely a creative exercise for Tiepolo instead of a commissioned piece. Register to bid for this event on the Christie’s website.

The Mollie Brewster Broussard Collection: Part II

The Mollie Brewster Broussard Collection- Part II

The second session of the Mollie Brewster Broussard Collection event, offered by Doyle, presents a Chanel Chevron Flap Bag as one of the leading lots. French fashion designer Coco Chanel worked to create innovative accessory designs during the early 20th century. While her company began producing bags in 1910, the Classic Flap didn’t enter the scene until the 1980s. Chanel’s early designs for the Classic Flap included some silhouette adjustments, along with the brand’s distinctive turn-lock trademark.

The upcoming event also offers an 18-karat gold and diamond cuff bangle bracelet. This two-colored piece is embellished with 29 round diamonds. Another featured item is a set of two multi-strand pearl bracelets, designed by Petochi & Gorevic. The re-launch of the 136-year-old jewelry house introduced an evolution of its designs. A handbag by Hermès and three gold and enamel brooches will also be available in the auction. Find many other pieces and register to bid on the  Invaluable website.

Emporium Auctions

Large Lidded Decorative Majolica Water Cooler

From French sculptor Eugène Delaplanche, who created works such as Eve After the Fall (1869) and Maternal Instruction (1875), comes a patinated bronze sculpture titled La Violoniste. The detailed piece shows a musician playing her instrument. Signed by the artist, the item is featured in the upcoming Emporium Auctions sale, presented by Brunk Auctions

An unsigned portrait of a gentleman holding a book (dated 1665) is also a featured lot. It likely belongs to a European Continental school. Other available oil paintings include a French portrait of a noblewoman in a red dress and a British painting of three spaniels. A noteworthy piece showing cows standing in water is by Francis E. Jamieson. The Scottish artist was best known for his landscapes of Scotland’s Highlands and Loch mountains.

Also included in this auction is a chrome yellow sofa that stands on lions paw feet with cornucopia carved arms. Its origin is not known but the piece comes from the collection of Anthony Baratta. Considered one of America’s most celebrated and respected interior designers, Baratta received Benjamin Moore’s coveted Hue Award for his lifetime achievement in design. Other items, such as assorted pieces of Paul Revere sterling flatware, Indian rugs, Chinese parrots, and a pre-Columbian bird whistle, are also listed in the auction.
