1stbid Offers Rare Antique and Vintage Persian, Tribal, and Caucasian Rugs in Upcoming Auction

Antique Shrivan Rug, 4’4’’ x 8’5’’ ( 1.32 x 2.57 M )

In this upcoming event, 1stbid Auctions will offer a fine collection of Persian, Tribal, and Caucasian rugs. Appealing to collectors around the world, these rugs are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find. The process of knotting, spinning, weaving, or tying high-quality wool, silk, cotton, or other natural fibers into an intricate design might take months, or even years, to complete. Also available in this sale is an antique Bakshaish rug. Located 60 miles east of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, Bakshaish is considered the oldest rug weaving village in the Persian Azerbaijan region. Many of these rugs have an abstract design reminiscent of age-old tribal and classical Persian motifs surrounding an intentionally placed folklore character. The available rug has repeating geometric patterns in shades of blue, brown, and orange.

Among the auction’s key lots is a vintage Karajeh long rug. The small village of Karajeh is found within the Azerbaijani region of northwestern Iran. The Karajeh women weavers were known for using earthy tones of red, cream, and green to create their own Karajeh signature pattern of a triple medallion motif. Bonhams’ Prints & Multiples Summer Splash auction will showcase works by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, Virgil Abloh, and others. Salvador Dalí’s Végetation inédit: Ananas is another top lot. It is a color photolithograph of a yellow pineapple executed in 1967. 1883-CC Morgan Dollar and Antique Trajan Roman Empire Coins Come to Sale with MYNT Auctions

1883-CC Morgan Dollar NGC MS67DMPL Hoard S$1 Finest

Operating from 1870 to 1893, the Carson City Mint struck some of the most coveted coins in the history of American numismatics. The Mint was established to make the most of its proximity to the richest silver deposits of Comstock Lode. It is also best remembered for producing Morgan dollars, which constituted a major share of its coinage. An uncirculated 1883-CC S$1 NGC coin issued by the Carson City Mint is a key highlight of the upcoming MYNT Auctions event. The MS67 DMPL coin is named after George T. Morgan, United States Mint Assistant Engraver. DMPL or deep mirror proof-like coins are among the most sought-after Morgan dollars owing to their highly reflective surfaces. Another numismatic lot of interest is a Trajan 98-117 CE Roman Empire AV Aureus NGC AU50. Also known as Marcus Ulpius Traianus, Trajan is regarded as a greatly significant Roman emperor. Like most coins issued under his rule, this one depicts the Emperor in his prime.

Antique Spanish Evangelist Sculpture and French Chapel Pricket Candlesticks Highlight the Upcoming Napoleon’s Fine Art LLC Sale

18th C. Spanish Colonial Four Evangelist Carvings

Of the several accounts of Jesus Christ’s life written over centuries, only four are acknowledged as authentic. The authors of these canonical gospels are identified as the four Evangelists, namely Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. An antique 18th-century Spanish wooden sculpture of the four Evangelists is a key highlight of the upcoming sale at Napoleon’s Fine Art LLC. These carvings particularly characterize the Spanish practice of painting wooden sculptures, especially in religious art. The Spanish sculptures of this period drew largely from the European polychrome wood carvings of the Middle Ages. Another noteworthy artwork on offer is Italian-American painter Enrico Donati’s abstract and expressionistic Silence Stone (1986). In this oil on canvas painting, the artist uses sand to create a grainy texture. Like most of his works, this one depicts stones rendered in an illusionistic space. Although associated with the 1940s Surrealist movement, Donati developed a distinct style of his own.

An early 19th-century pair of hand-carved chapel pricket candlesticks also leads the listings. The vintage French gilded pieces are intricately crafted with white gold acanthus leaves, laurels, and rosette motifs. Buccellati Jewelry and Japanese Shin-Hanga Prints Available With DGW Auctioneers

Buccellati 18K Gold and Diamond Bangle Bracelet.

In the early 20th century, traditional ukiyo-e prints were in decline, and a new style of Japanese printmaking had taken hold. Artisans used the old techniques to depict new subjects, often traditional Japanese themes that were romanticized to appeal to a Western audience. DGW Auctioneers will soon present a selection of Japanese shin-hanga prints during this July’s Fine Estates & Collectibles Auction. The prints are from Kawase Hasui, a leader of the shin-hanga movement. Among the top lots is Hasui’s Tennoji Temple in Osaka. This shin-hanga woodblock print shows a single figure standing before a snowy temple. They face away from the viewer, blocked by a white-dusted umbrella. The sale also includes Japanese prints by Kasamatsu Shiro, Hiroshi Yoshida, and others.

Among the notable jewelry lots in this sale is a Buccellati 18-karat gold and diamond bangle bracelet. This hand-made piece features a total of 30 diamonds arranged in a radiating snowflake pattern. Additionally, a variety of furniture items will cross the auction block. A Louis XV-style transitional trumeau mirror leads this section of the sale. A painted panel arches above a beveled mirror, held together with a gilt frame. A candle would have been placed before this French-style mirror to illuminate dim rooms. Additional lots of interest include handcrafted glass paperweights, sterling silver flatware, and assorted luxury wines. Visit Bidsquare to view the complete catalog and browse other online auctions

Akiba Antiques Presents Cold War-Era Periscope, Art Deco Revival Panels

German Carl Zeiss Cold War Binocular Periscope

After the Art Deco fever reached its height in the late 1920s, the extravagant style retreated for several decades. Sleek modernism took its place as the favored interior design style in the United States. However, Art Deco witnessed a resurgence in the 1960s and 70s. Glamor, excess, and wealth again dominated the mainstream, contributing to an Art Deco revival. Renowned interior designer and glass artist Dennis Abbe was among those steering the renewed Art Deco movement. This upcoming sale from Akiba Antiques particularly highlights a pair of Art Deco Revival frosted glass panels from Abbe. Featuring two elegant Egyptian women, the panels include scarab accents and swirling lines.

Also notable is a binocular periscope from the Cold War period. German manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG designed this periscope, and it was originally used for observation across the East and West Berlin border. It dates back to the mid- to late 1950s. Bidders can also consider an original painting by Armenian artist Gevorg Yeghiazarian. Preoccupied with the boundary between the real and the imaginary, Yeghiazarian is known for luminous figural paintings executed in bold colors. The available work, titled Monument of Faith, shows a group of people taking religious postures and solemn expressions. For the complete auction catalog, visit LiveAuctioneers

The upcoming Wiederseim Associates, Inc. auction presents an oil painting by Richard Barrett Davis. The Coverley Hunt depicts a party of royals with hunting dogs and horses. The commission portrays the artist’s expertise in painting animals in a detailed manner. Another highlight is a 1966 Mark VI brass alto saxophone by Selmer. The company first introduced the Mark VI model in 1954. It was famous for its unique mix of tone, intonation, and key work. Austin Auction Gallery to Present Mosler Safe Company Bank Vault Door in July 3-Day Sale

Large Mosler Safe Company Bank Vault Door On Stand

Several bank vault doors will be featured in Austin Auction Gallery’s upcoming three-day sale. Particularly highlighted is a Mosler Safe & Lock Company bank vault door that has been mounted on a freestanding metal stand and measures approximately 103.5 inches high and 99.25 inches wide.

Originally founded as Mosler, Bahmann & Company by Gustave Mosler and Fred Bahmann in 1867, a dispute with Bahmann following the death of Mosler in 1874 caused the Mosler family to split from the American-based security equipment manufacturer and form Mosler Safe & Lock Company. The family retained ownership until it sold the company to American Standard Companies in 1967. In 1986, American Standard sold the division back to a group of Mosler managers and outside investors. Then, in 2001, after continued debt problems caused the company to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Diebold acquired ownership. Mosler’s most famous vaults include the pre-WWII Mitsui Bank vaults that survived Hiroshima’s nuclear attacks, the vault that previously held the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence, and the United States Bullion Depository’s gold vaults found at Fort Knox.

Also included in this auction is a 35-inch Civil War era German Solingen calvary sword with W. Clauberg’s makers mark, a rare 1844 Republic of Texas map by W.H. Emory, and more. Visit Bidsquare to view the entire catalog and browse more online auctions.

Vintage Automotive Horns and Antique Publications Lead Sale of Francis Tarzian Estate of Automobilia & Collectibles

Brass Boa Constrictor Horn. Snake Head with tapering tube, brackets and squeeze bulb

In a bygone era, the earliest motor vehicles were equipped with brass bulb horns, a sound-making device used to alert pedestrians and animals. A boa constrictor snake head was a classic design in these horns. With its strange serpentine look, the horn would prompt people to swiftly get out of the way. A vintage automotive brass horn with squeeze blub is a key highlight of Turner Auctions’ Francis Tarzian Estate of Automobilia & Collectibles sale. With a boa constrictor snake head and tongue, the horn comprises a tapering flexible tube measuring five to six feet. Another antique piece is an Edison Mazda lamp store display and light bulbs. Consisting of 12 lamps for varied bulb types, each socket is independently switched and made of lithograph sheet metal. General Electric (GE) used the Mazda trademark name in the US from 1909 to 1945.

Two antique collections also lead the automobilia listings. One comprises a set of old-time publications including Automobile Trade Journal (1918), an antique Ford brochure (1923), and Traction Engines Worth Modeling by Floyd Clymer (1952). The other top lot is an interesting assortment of vintage irons by Siddons, Asbestos and Paulsen Co. To view the complete catalog and register to bid online, visit Turner Auctions.
