1stbid Offers Rare Antique and Vintage Persian, Tribal, and Caucasian Rugs in Upcoming Auction
Aug 14, 2022 14:00 EDTIn this upcoming event, 1stbid Auctions will offer a fine collection of Persian, Tribal, and Caucasian rugs. Appealing to collectors around the world, these rugs are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to find. The process of knotting, spinning, weaving, or tying high-quality wool, silk, cotton, or other natural fibers into an intricate design might take months, or even years, to complete. Also available in this sale is an antique Bakshaish rug. Located 60 miles east of Tabriz in northwestern Iran, Bakshaish is considered the oldest rug weaving village in the Persian Azerbaijan region. Many of these rugs have an abstract design reminiscent of age-old tribal and classical Persian motifs surrounding an intentionally placed folklore character. The available rug has repeating geometric patterns in shades of blue, brown, and orange.
Among the auction’s key lots is a vintage Karajeh long rug. The small village of Karajeh is found within the Azerbaijani region of northwestern Iran. The Karajeh women weavers were known for using earthy tones of red, cream, and green to create their own Karajeh signature pattern of a triple medallion motif.
