When Andy Warhol became an illustrator for Glamour magazine, he entered the world of Pop Art in New York. By the 1950s, he could be identified as a key figure in the Pop Art movement. He eventually started making silkscreen prints of famous personalities, exploring the connection between celebrity culture and artistic expression. In February, Dallas Auction Gallery will present several prints by Warhol. Over 150 lots will be offered in the upcoming Fine & Decorative Art Auction, many of which are posters and prints.
Available in this sale is an oil on masonite piece by Merritt Mauzey. A self-taught artist, Mauzey was primarily known for his lithographs of dryland cotton farmers in Texas. Also presented is a Vik Muniz painting, showing a reversal grey portrait of Marilyn Monroe. The contemporary Brazilian artist is best known for his works with found materials—including chocolate, jelly, toys, and trash.
