Stair Galleries’ upcoming auction, Friday Afternoon at Stair, will include over 400 lots of traditional and modern furnishings, decorative art, and fine art. A floral needlepoint carpet is among the top pieces available in the sale. Canvas needlework flourished in France and England during the 17th century and beyond. Executed with wool yarn on jute, hemp, linen canvas, and later cotton, English rugs are particularly known for their profuse floral motifs. The lot available in this auction features floral patterns in pink, blue, and white colors on a brown background.
Available in the sale is a Ningxia pillar rug depicting a scrolling dragon above a polychrome wave and cloud border. Designed to be hung around pillars in Buddhist temples and monasteries, the most common pattern in these rugs is of entwined dragons. Also highlighted is a set of four Derby porcelain allegorical figures of the four seasons and a Chinese metal-mounted red lacquer cabinet. A pair of antique French Louis XV style ormolu wall lights are also available. View the complete catalog and register for bidding on Bidsquare.
