Heritage Auctions‘ upcoming event brings to auction nearly 200 weapons, uniforms, and wartime photographs. Among the highlighted lots is a frock coat and hat worn by Corporal George Schmultz during the American Civil War. Schmultz fought for the Union in the 188th Regiment of the Pennslyvania Infantry. Heritage Auctions notes that the lot is in good condition and comes with original patches.
Also representing the American Civil War is a photograph of Sergeant Charles English of the 108th Regiment of the United States Colored Infantry. The photograph in this auction is a carte de visite, or small calling card, which was popular in the mid-19th century.
Several weapons are highlighted in this auction, including a pair of Beretta S06 EELL shotguns. Also available is a wakizashi, a Japanese blade usually associated with the samurai. Register to bid and view each lot on Heritage Auctions’ website.
George Rodrigue’s Blue Dog series represents his attempt to conserve Cajun culture, especially following the events of September 11, 2001. Offered in New Orleans Auction Galleries’ upcoming auction is an original acrylic painting titled God Bless America by Rodrigue. To portray the grief and terror that followed 9/11, Rodrigue painted his signature blue dog in front of the American flag. However, the dog is colorless in this piece, with red eyes that indicate a heavy heart. Paintings by artists Charles Hermans and Jean Beraud are also highlighted in the sale.
Period furniture such as cabinets, tables, and mirrors are a part of the auction as well. Among them is an American rococo revival rosewood étagère. Attributed to J. H. Belter, the upper section of this display holds a central mirror atop white marble. Below, there is a central drawer, mirrored cabinet, and carved swan legs. Artist Richard Estes was given a Kodak camera when he was eight years old. His early exposure to cameras inspired him to produce photo-realistic paintings throughout his career. Included in the upcoming 20th Century Modern & Contemporary Fine Art auction, presented by Stair Galleries, is a painting by Estes during his 2007 visit to Antarctica. Although Estes’ work usually depicts city environments, his Antarctica painting still reflects his commitment to Realism.
As the event’s name suggests, each of the auction’s lots represent the major art movements of the 20th century. This includes a 1985 poster promoting an Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat exhibition. On the poster, Warhol and Basquiat pose as if they were rival boxers. Also available in this auction are several sculptures. Among the highlighted pieces is Elisabeth Frink’s Chinese Horse III. The figure’s color comes from patina, which is a thin layer of oxidized bronze. Alexander Calder’s Cheval II will be offered as well. Browse the full catalog and register to bid online on Bidsquare

He describing the decline of Coney Island in the 1960s through the 80s and the work he, along with a few others, did to preserve what remained.

When Christopher Slowinski emigrated to the United States and started Christopher Designs in 1981, he already had a background in classic jewelry design. His company is best known for creating a new type of gemstone cut, using 77 facets as opposed to the standard 48. “I have always been intrigued with taking something established and making it even more beautiful,” Slowinski said. One of the company’s multi-faced diamond engagement rings will be featured in the Gifting 101: Audubon to Vuitton auction presented by Ahlers & Ogletree. Over 650 lots will be available to coincide with the holiday season, including luxury jewelry, fashion, and furniture.
Several pieces from Louis Vuitton will cross the auction block, including a monogrammed pet carrier, a suitcase, and various travel bags.
