One of the featured lots depicts the Pirate’s Alley at Royal Street, New Orleans with two bystanders.
George Rodrigue is also one of the highlighted artists with three available paintings in the auction. Known for showing a recurring blue dog in most of his works, he was inspired by his own pet that passed away. Rodrigue is quoted on Artnet, “The dog never changes position. He just stares at you. And you’re looking at him, looking for some answers… and he’s just looking back at you, wondering the same.” Interested bidders looking for furniture can also find a stainless-steel bureau designed by John Vesey. The second day of the upcoming Winter Estates Auction offered by Neal Auction Company will include over 450 lots. The decorative lamp displays a vibrant rose pattern on the shade with a lily pad design at the base.
In the sale, several Persian carpets are also available. One of the rugs comes from Sarouk, which was among the most active carpet weaving villages of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sarouk rugs are characterized by a cotton foundation with balanced colors and are particularly known for their standards of quality. Other available items include a pair of carved mahogany daybeds decorated in flowers and acorns. The two sofas are asymmetrical and balance each other. A pair of American garden benches from the mid-19th century will be presented as well. Register to bid and view the full auction catalog on Invaluable.
Gemologists divide diamonds into two types based on the levels of nitrogen in the stone’s chemical structure. Type IIa diamonds are the most scientifically pure and are noted for their clarity. A 5-carat Type IIa diamond will be featured in the upcoming Fine Jewels auction, offered by Fortuna Auction. The diamond is placed in an 18-karat white gold ring and is flanked by two smaller diamonds. Another ring presented in the sale comes from the Harry Winston jewelry house. The pear-shaped piece follows the jeweler’s preference for elevating gemstones above metals.
Other brands represented in this auction include Tiffany & Co., Cartier, and Rolex. A Tiffany & Co. drop necklace is among the featured lots. Diamonds and aquamarines are alternated with morganite, a pink variation of beryl that resembles emeralds. The alternating pink-and-blue stones are ringed with small, brilliant-cut diamonds. Notable watch lots include a Rolex President Daydate in white gold and a vintage Piaget watch with a silver and gold Florentine finish. Explore the full catalog and register to bid on Bidsquare.
Charles Ridgway was one of the only journalists to write a positive review of Disneyland’s opening day in July of 1955. The park ran out of food and most of the rides broke down. But Ridgway came early enough to try the food and stayed late enough for the rides to re-open. He eventually joined Disney’s PR team and had a window on Disneyland’s Main Street, USA named after him. The window display honoring Ridgway is one of the highlighted lots in the upcoming Disneyana auction, presented by Potter & Potter Auctions. The display reads “Ridgway and Company, Public Relations, No Event Too Small” and was used on Main Street until a crack emerged in the right pane.
From the Ridgway window to Japanese model toys, many of the auction’s lots were either used in Disneyland or directly inspired by it. This includes a metal sign used in the park during the 1960s and early 70s displaying its daily hours. Two magnetic panels are included in the lot, one reading “9 A.M. to 12 P.M.” and the other “10 A.M. to 6 P.M.” Other items from Disneyland include a sign for the Matterhorn announcing that the ride is closed for maintenance. Walt Disney first proposed an early version of the Matterhorn in 1956 but was met with resistance from the maintenance team. “We’re sorry… our bobsleds are unable to run today,” reads the sign in this auction, “(we just uncovered an ‘abominable problem’).”
Disney collectors will also find toys inspired by Disneyland attractions. Among these lots is a complete 100-piece model of Disneyland produced by Japanese company D’Agostino. The company sent individual pieces through the mail to collectors every month. Together, the 100 pieces create a 68-pound model of Disneyland with every building in the park represented. French artist Albert Gleizes dedicated his life to contributing and explaining the Cubist art movement. His early exposure to the new art form of geometric patterns, lines, and colors came from his father’s fabric studio. Although Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso were the leaders of Cubism, it was Gleizes and the other hosts of the Salon des Independants who would popularize the ‘fractured art.’ Palm Beach Modern Auctions presents Paysage Cubiste, a Cubist landscape painting by Albert Gleizes in the upcoming Modern Art & Design + Urban Culture auction.
An offered abstract painting by Lyrical-Abstractionist painter Ray Parker resembles the work of Mark Rothko. Parker’s association with the geometric art of Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko inspired the bold-colored, geometric shapes in Parker’s own paintings. Also available in the sale is a piece of Picasso’s clay ceramics. The Tarasque jug, a white earthenware piece painted with engobe and glaze to resemble a dragon, is a key lot. The auction also offers a drawing by Keith Haring, as well as sculptures by Lynn Chadwick and Arman. Explore the full listings and register to bid online on Bidsquare.

“I paint many paintings that tell me slowly that I have something inside of me that is just bursting, twisting, sticking, spilling over to get out,” Bob Thompson is quoted by the Minneapolis Museum of Art. The African-American figurative painter applied unnatural shades to form distorted human, animal, and phantom figures. A painting by Thompson is one of the highlighted lots in the upcoming sale presented by Brunk Auctions. Despite his short career, Thompson led an important role in the history of art. Unlike other artists of his generation, Thompson dominated Abstract art while adapting its gestures and expressive use of color to form his own style.
The collection also highlights decorative art from Tiffany Studios, including a 20th-century leaded glass and bronze table lamp. With a dragonfly design against a solid green background on the shade, the lamp is mounted on a lily pad base. It has an original bronze heat cap as well. Another featured item in this event is Will Henry Stevens’ pastel work titled Blue Abstract. Born in 1881, Stevens was an American Impressionist. His work has been featured in several key art galleries and museums, including the Mississippi Museum of Art and the Mint Museum of Art. Register to bid and view all the available lots on Bidsquare.
Charles Green Shaw was a successful freelance writer for The New Yorker, Smart Set, and Vanity Fair in the 1920s and 1930s. Then, in his late thirties, he took an interest in art. This abstract oil painting features black and gray brushstrokes with red, yellow, and white contrasting colors.

Others lots of interest include a 2007 horse portrait print from Joe Andoe, a mother and child statue by Armando Amaya, a late Gothic carved oak tankard, and more.
