Modern Art & Design + Urban Culture Auctions: 3 Sessions

French artist Albert Gleizes dedicated his life to contributing and explaining the Cubist art movement. His early exposure to the new art form of geometric patterns, lines, and colors came from his father’s fabric studio. Although Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso were the leaders of Cubism, it was Gleizes and the other hosts of the Salon des Independants who would popularize the ‘fractured art.’ Palm Beach Modern Auctions presents Paysage Cubiste, a Cubist landscape painting by Albert Gleizes in the upcoming Modern Art & Design + Urban Culture auction. 

An offered abstract painting by Lyrical-Abstractionist painter Ray Parker resembles the work of Mark Rothko. Parker’s association with the geometric art of Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko inspired the bold-colored, geometric shapes in Parker’s own paintings. Also available in the sale is a piece of Picasso’s clay ceramics. The Tarasque jug, a white earthenware piece painted with engobe and glaze to resemble a dragon, is a key lot.
