In the spotlight of this sale is an L. & J.G. Stickley Morris chair. The chair was originally designed by William Morris and adapted by Gustav Stickley. This style of furniture arose from the Arts & Crafts Movement. The offered piece is a 20th-century chair made of oak with slatted arms. Van Cleef & Arpels Magic Alhambra Diamond 6 Motif

The decorative technique of applying translucent enamel over guilloche metal was introduced in Russia by the House of Fabergé. One of the key highlights in the upcoming David Yurman Russian Bronze designer sale by Allure Antique Auction Company is a Russian gold, diamond, and ruby guilloche egg from the mid-20th century. Its ovoid body has a base of semi-translucent white moiré enamel with the decorative stones on top. The piece is raised on a white conical foot, with a beaded and banded border and applied rosettes. The egg is encased in a wooden travel box. 

An Alhambra diamond necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels and a diamond necklace and earrings set by Tiffany & Co. are among the key jewelry lots of the sale. Christie’s 100 Online Sale

Yayoi Kusama (b. 1929)

A gelatin silver photographic print titled Frankfurt Airport VII: April 24, 2001 is one of the leading items in the upcoming auction presented by Christie’s. The photograph, created by Vera Lutter, is included among the 92 available lots. Lutter is a German photographer admired for her work with camera obscura (pinhole camera) made by the artist herself from plywood. Her photos are usually flush-mounted on aluminum, including the piece available in this auction. 

Another top item of the sale is Aparecida (from Pictures of Aftermath), a chromogenic print by Vik Muniz. According to Artnet, “The artist is an influential contemporary Brazilian artist best known for his complex photographic works… exhibited at the Solomon R. Marie-Victoire Lemoine

A leading furniture lot in the upcoming sale offered by Doyle is a mahogany secretaire-cabinet attributed to Thomas Chippendale. It shows the influence of Chippendale’s friend and colleague Robert Adam, who favored a more Neoclassical style to Chippendale’s English Rococo. Another lot of interest, two pier tables made of satinwood, tulipwood, and marquetry, follow Chippendale’s style. Each half-circle table is carved with sunflowers, palmettes, and a profile portrait on the front. 

This English & Continental Furniture / Old Master Paintings auction will also highlight the work of Marie-Victoire Lemoine. An unmarried female artist who was sporadically active around the turn of the 19th century, Lemoine is best known for her portraits of high-ranking members of the French court. The available Lemoine portrait depicts Pauline Bonaparte, the younger sister of Napoleon I. Likely created a year into Bonaparte’s marriage to a French general, the subject leans against an open window with a book in her hands. Rare Chavin Maranon Polychrome Erotic Vessel w- TL Test

The Tlingit people believe that frogs bring good fortune and are spiritual beings. As a result, frogs are common subjects in Tlingit paintings and sculptures. An oval feast dish by Tlingit carver Augustus Bean is featured in the upcoming Pre-Columbian | Tribal | Ethnographic auction, presented by Artemis Gallery. The wooden dish shows two frogs on the interior and a face at each end of the exterior. The rim of the dish is decorated with 12 bean-shaped whale and sea mammal bone inlays.

Another key highlight of the sale is an erotic vessel from the Chavin era. The Chavin civilization created the first major Indigenous culture in Peru. Their artworks often represent their gods and religious beliefs. The present lot is believed to be older than the ceramics of the classic Chavin era. The piece depicts explicit erotic subject matter with a polychrome finish in shades of red, orange, cream, and black. Additional lots include a sculpture of Ai Apaec, a deity in the Mochica culture, holding a human head in one hand and a tumi knife in the other. American jewelry designer Henry Dunay wanted to create jewelry pieces to set him apart from his competition. Dunay’s craftsmanship led to the creation of curved jewelry pieces designed with a distinct style. It was the Sabi finished jewelry and timepieces with hand-etched lines that led to his firm’s success. The highlighted Henry Dunay lady’s diamond and gold Sabi watch is inspired by wabi-sabi, a Japanese aesthetic that accepts imperfections in beautiful things. Eero Aarnio Ball Chair

Damian Msagula sold fruits and vegetables when he first met the Tingatinga artists in Tanzania. In 1973, Msagula joined those artists and started painting. Msagula eventually developed his own artistic style. A balance of colors was important to him, particularly when making his own pigments from plants. His paintings are centered around African culture, making Msagula a central figure in Tanzania’s art scene. Numerous paintings by the artist will be offered in the upcoming January Online Estates auction, presented by Material Culture.

Among other lots, Ian Ingersoll’s dining table is among the highlights of the sale. Ingersoll, a renowned cabinetmaker from West Cornwall, is known for his Shaker furniture. HYACINTHE RIGAUD - PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN, HALF-LENGTH, IN A RED MANTLE

In 1511, Joos van Cleve rose through the ranks of an Antwerp guild as a ‘master painter.’ He was best known for his detailed portraits of royalty and his religious paintings. Most of his artworks reflect an aspect of everyday life. In the upcoming Old Masters Online auction, Sotheby’s presents over 140 pieces of fine art. Among them is an oil portrait attributed to van Cleve. The painting depicts a woman holding a rosary and a flower. This portrait shows the subject from the chest and above against a solid background to draw the viewer’s focus to the center.

Also offered is a still life work from Simon Pietersz. An elaborate bouquet of flowers is shown with dark and muted colors in this painting. Giovanni Battista Salvi’s portraiture can be found in the collection as well. Salvi worked with easel paintings, most often representing the Madonna alone or with the Christ Child. One of the offered lots is an example of his work, a painting of Mary gazing upward while bathed in light. A pair of green agate and peridot ear pendants

Edward Lewis is perhaps best known as the producer of the Universal Pictures production Spartacus, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, and a BAFTA Award. He produced Spartacus at the suggestion of his fellow producer and writer wife, Mildred Lewis. The upcoming California Jewels auction offered by Bonhams will present 38 jewelry pieces from the collection of Edward and Mildred Lewis. Particularly highlighted is a gold and diamond pendant necklace. The piece has a round brilliant-cut diamond in the center, mounted in 14-karat gold.

The auction will feature an array of jewelry. A toi et moi ring is a key highlight of the sale. Toi et moi, meaning ‘you and me’ in French, symbolizes two souls joining as one. Two stones, usually of similar size and cut, are set next to each other on the same ring while barely touching. The first toi et moi ring was popularized by Napoleon Bonaparte I when he offered his first wife, Josephine de Beauharnais, one such ring. Michael Rothman 20th-21st Century Miocene Era habitat group

The golden age of carousels, between the 1890s and 1920s, saw more than 2,000 carousels hand-carved and painted by the master woodcarvers of America. The Great Depression marked the fall of the carousel market as many of these hand-carved carousels fell into disrepair or were demolished. Interest in the carousel art form again spiked in the 1970s when the lost American carousel pieces were uncovered. Many of these hand-carved animals will be featured in the upcoming Home & Interiors Auction offered by Bonhams. Among them, a 20th-century Daniel Muller sea monster carousel piece with a winged saddle is highlighted. Also presented are examples of early American lots by Philadelphia Toboggan Co.

Along with the carousel items, this auction will include painted and stained glass windows, carpets, and furniture. Featured in the sale is a Haji Jalili Tabriz carpet. Known as one of the best carpet masters of the Tabriz region in Iran, Haji Jalili is known for his distinctive choices in color pallets. He often incorporates lighter colors such as pink, grey, and gold in his designs. Jalili’s other trademark is his use of subdued backgrounds of wheat, ivory, sand, pale rust, terra cotta, and brown.
