An American showman known for his Wild West shows and collaboration with “Buffalo” Bill Cody, Pawnee Bill (also known as Gordon William Lillie) started his career as an interpreter for Buffalo Bill’s show. He was later involved in the white settlement of Native American lands in present-day Oklahoma and was known for his traveling performers. Dzubas (1915 – 1994), a German-American Abstract Expressionist painter, is renowned for his large-scale, vibrant paintings. He drew inspiration from nature, Greek mythology, Christianity, and travel for his compositions. A 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown Widebody is crossing the auction block this July in the Florida Summer Special 2024 Sale from Mecum Auctions. It is just one of 500 ever produced. It is the first of the last call editions. It has a 6.4L V-8 engine with a six-speed manual transmission and Mopar cold air Shaker hood. The exterior is sleek black with a red “392” fender graphic and a shakedown stripe with a red accent. It has only run 16 miles. Another Dodge Challenger is also among the featured lots. It is a 2020 TorRed Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Hennessey HPE1000. The engine is 6.2L/1000 HP V-8 with automatic transmission, rated at 1,000 HP and 948 lb-ft of torque. Features include a power sunroof and Harman Kardon 18-speaker premium audio system with GreenEdge amplifier and subwoofer.
Another notable lot in the sale is a 1999 Honda Valkyrie Tourer with a sidecar. It has a liquid-cooled 1520cc boxer with a six-cylinder engine similar to the Goldwing SE. A wildlife artist known for his lifelike paintings, illustrations, and engravings of game animals, Rungius led the way in shaping modern-day animal conservation practices. His paintings depicted animals in their natural environment, a technique that was new to North American art. Another notable fine artwork in the catalog is an acrylic on Masonite painting by Bob Kuhn titled Giraffes. Hopi kachina dolls, also known as katsina figures, are carved from cottonwood root by the people of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona. Native Americans in the Southwest traditionally believe that with the advent of the winter season, spirit beings called kachinas descend on Earth. They are said to carry messages from the spirit world. During the katsina ceremony, these figures are bestowed upon the daughters of the community. After the ceremony, these dolls are displayed on the walls. The upcoming sale, offered by Brunk Auctions, will feature a Crow Mother kachina or Angwusnasomtaqa (circa 1930s – 40s). Carved in polychrome cottonwood, she is regarded as the mother of all kachinas and leads the initiation rites for children.
Another lot of interest is an Amos Wheaton goldeneye drake decoy (circa 1920). It has a prominent head shape and a pronounced paddle tail. The thee-piece hollow body has a separation between the neck and back crest of the head. A morganite from the collection of Peter L. Via also leads the catalog. The specimen is semi-translucent pink in color with black schorl inclusions. It was mined from Mina Urubu NR Teofilo Otoni, Brazil. Israeli artist David (Dudu) Gerstein is known for his painting, sculpture, draftsmanship and printmaking skills. A recipient of the Israel Museum Prize, he started exploring sculpture by cutting out the subjects of his paintings to eliminate the background. This enabled him to create freestanding cutout images without the conventional square frames. Following his experiments with cardboard and wood, Gerstein discovered laser-cutting technology. He began using aluminum and created single layer and subsequently multi-layered cutouts. The upcoming sale from Robinhood Auctions will feature some noteworthy mixed media cutouts in aluminum. One of them belongs to a limited edition of 150. Titled City Riders A, it measures 47 inches by 28 inches. He uses vibrant hues to portray everyday life activities such as walking and cycling.
