The Breeze Art Fair (also called Breeze), known as a springboard for emerging artists, will mark its tenth anniversary on Nodeul Island in Seoul from August 17 to 20, 2023. Since it started at a cafe in Hapjeong-dong, Seoul in 2012, it has established itself as an art market for emerging artists. In particular, as this year marks the tenth anniversary of the exhibition, “Breeze Insight” will be presented in the form of a special exhibition.

This year, Breeze selected 65 artists. In accordance with Breeze’s tradition of openly recruiting participating artists without academic background, career, or age restrictions, more than 680 applicants gathered this year. After showing a competitive ratio of more than 10 to 1, the selected artists will share their work to visitors through sessions titled NEW (under 30 years old, 26 people) and NOW (over 30 years old, 39 people).

In addition, artists Hee-jo Lee and Kyung-hwa Noh, who won awards at NEW and NOW in 2022, will participate in the PRIZE session, and three artists from Bucheon and Jeju will participate in the LOCAL TRACK session, which introduced local artists for the first time last year. LOCAL TRACK is a session for local artists who are alienated from Seoul and is a program that Breeze discovers through local cultural foundations. The artists participating in the tenth Breeze Art Fair come to the exhibition site and meet with visitors. Visitors can meet on-site and talk about their works if they like any of the participating artists.

Breeze is known as a great opportunity, especially for beginner collectors. Therefore, if you are a beginner collector, it would be good to visit Breeze before attending Frieze Seoul in September. According to a survey of buyers in 2022, 25% said they purchased an artwork for the first time. Works displayed at Breeze range in price from around USD 80 to around $8,000. “Breeze is good for beginner collectors to enjoy and purchase works,” said Ji-yeon Jung, director of Breeze Art Fair. “Gallery and art market workers often come to Breeze to discover artists, and if you have a good eye, we recommend collecting artists’ works that will grow through Breeze.”

At the same time, Breeze prepared a special exhibition to mark its anniversary. INSIGHT sheds light on ten artists who have participated in Breeze several times over the past decade and have grown together. Bo-mi Kim, Kyung-hwa Noh, Dong-sik Noh, Man-wook, Da-gyeom Lee, Sang-mi Lee, Su-ji Jang, Young Jin, Ji-hyun Choi and Seung-hee Heo are the parties, and their works can be viewed from August 26 to September 2, 2023 at the Seoul Arts Center. Artist Byung-hee Sung will participate as an invited artist.
