Day 1 of the September 2019 Fall Fine Art and Chinese Sale offered by Sarasota Estate Auction begins by showcasing an important part of Chinese history. A pair of carved Chinese throne chairs were made during the Qing Dynasty, the final imperial dynasty in China. The Qing Dynasty ruled from 1636 until 1912, when it was succeeded by the Republic of China. The elegant throne chairs have thick sides and back rails depicting dragons.
Highlighted in the auction is a painting by Joseph Henry Sharp (1859-1953) titled “The Dog House.” This oil painting features a playful child inside the doghouse with their pet. Also included is an exquisite, mirrored Victorian three-piece armoire. This piece is beautifully carved with floral period wallpaper and fabric covering the interior.
