Known as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theatre designer, Pablo Picasso was celebrated for his expertise in a variety of mediums. In the late 1940s, Picasso began exploring clay pottery. He went on to create many ceramic pieces throughout the last years of his life depicting Greek mythological figures, animal shapes, and faces. Elite Auctioneers’ upcoming Fine Estate Art & Antiques auction features a Picasso Madoura pottery plate, titled Faun’s Head.
A kinetic screenprint on a transparent cube from Jesús Rafael Soto is also included in the auction. Soto was known for his experimental kinetic sculptures that blend geometric and organic styles. Using illusory effects in most of his works, Soto was often associated with Venezuelan Op art. Édouard Cortès’ street scene oil painting and a nude portrait of a woman gazing at her reflection by Cagnaccio Pietro will be included as well.
