    Historic Fine Art & Antiques

The upcoming sale, presented by Elite Auctioneers, particularly highlights an oil painting titled The Goldfish Bowl by Samuel F.B. Morse. The painting shows Mrs. Richard Carey Morse and her two children, Elizabeth and Charlotte. The artist, who was also the inventor of the single-wire telegraph and creator of Morse code, started his career as a painter. After his wife's death, Morse shifted his focus away from art and dedicated himself to invention. According to H. B. Wehle, in 1832, when Morse returned from Europe after completing his work with the telegraph, his brothers Richard and Sidney Morse gave him financial and moral support. Morse likely painted Richard's wife and daughters out of gratitude. The artist is believed to have painted two versions, one for each niece. The second version is in the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. Also showcased is Cantaloupes II from Andy Warhol's Space Fruit series. Published in 1979, Space Fruit is based on traditional still-lifes of fruit that have been transformed in a non-representational manner. The work highlights Warhol’s evolving interest in Abstract art, which developed in the late 1970s. View these lots and register to bid on Bidsquare.

    June Collectibles And Fine Art

Sam Gilliam, an African American artist, introduced draped, painted canvas hangings that lacked stretcher bars in the 1960s. The stained fabric pieces are regarded as a major step in the development of American art. Known as a Lyrical Abstractionist, the artist frequently experiments on draped canvas, adding a sculptural element to his art. An example of Gilliam’s mixed media wall hangings is available in the upcoming June Collectibles and Fine Art Auction. The oil on wood and metal piece is executed in vibrant rainbow colors, measuring 63 inches high and 42 inches wide.  Elite Auctioneers, LLC will also offer several sculptures of Eastern origin in this sale, including a Garuda Buddhist deity in gilt bronze. In Hindu and Buddhist mythology, Garuda is a bird-like being that combines eagle and human features. A yin and yang flower mark can be found on the bottom of the sculpture. A Tibetan oil on canvas piece is also highlighted, showing several ancient Tibetan deities. For more information, visit Bidsquare.

Elite Auctioneers’ upcoming Fine Estate Art & Antiques auction features a Picasso Madoura pottery plate, titled Faun's Head. A kinetic screenprint on a transparent cube from Jesús Rafael Soto is also included in the auction. Soto was known for his experimental kinetic sculptures that blend geometric and organic styles.
