Known as a pioneer of modern Iranian art, calligrapher and painter Charles Hossein Zenderoudi was nominated as one of the ten most important living artists by the French journal Connaissance des Art in 1970. Since the 1990s, Zenderoudi has adopted a Minimalist approach to his works, forming a distinctive visual communication between the artist and the viewer. “People around the world are all the same, and everyone is able to read my work,” he explains. “What matters is the harmonization between the heart of the artist and the heart of the viewer.” An abstract composition by Zenderoudi highlights the upcoming Clarke Auction event. Executed in 1991, the mixed media work features a Quranic verse against a bold background.
Also highlighted among the 614 lots is a glazed ceramic plate from Pablo Picasso. The artist started working with ceramics in 1947 after he visited Vallauris, France. Until 1973, Picasso designed over 600 different ceramics. Titled Jouer de Diaule, the available plate was conceived in 1947 and executed in a numbered edition of 200. Other lots featured in the sale include a Rolex Submariner watch, several Tiffany Studios lamps, and a Tuttle sterling silver tea service. View the complete listings and register to bid on Bidsquare.
