Simpsons Galleries presents a well-selected assemblage fine art and decorative arts, 20th – century collectibles, and jewelry mainly from Texas, as well as from around the world in their upcoming Fine Art & Antiques Session I.
Traditional paintings by American and European masters, such as Édouard Cortés, Robert Reid, Thomas Moran, and William Keith are the highlight of the auction. Among them, Le Pont Neuf, d’Henri IV oil on linen by French post-impressionist artist Édouard Leon Cortès is the highest valued collectible. The artist is known for Impressionistic and idealized scenes of Parisian streets and French rural villages.
Texas and regional art are also well represented in the auction with outstanding works by artists like Anthony DeYoung, Porfirio Salinas, Robert Wood- and more recent artists Dorothy Hood, Basilios Poulos, Billy Hassell, John Alexander, Ida Kohlmeyer, and George Rodrique.
Gregory Crewdson is best known for his surreal images which are often melancholic. They have ambiguous narratives that blur the boundaries between fiction and reality. The “Untitled (Woman Stain),” photograph by the American photographer is among his few masterpieces. The auction will also host a variety of antique silverware, maps, rare and fine jewelry on the first day of the auction.
