Louis Comfort Tiffany created Tiffany Studios particularly to expand the use of iridescent glass in lamps and windows. It was during this time that Edison’s invention of the incandescent light bulb inspired Tiffany to focus on home interiors. The upcoming auction, offered by Cottone Auctions, presents several examples of Tiffany’s Art Nouveau works, including floor lamps, table lamps, and ceiling fixtures. Particularly featured is a 1914 rose table lamp by Tiffany Studios. The leaded glass and patinated bronze shades are also called “rose helmets.” A green and red-colored dragonfly table lamp and an 18-light, favrile lily lamp will be featured as well.
Landscape artist Carl William Peters often drew sketches on blackboards to entertain his friends; he later moved to Fairport to learn painting. His works often depict severe weather scenes of Rochester and Fairport. Highlighted is a snow scene painting by Peters, titled Elm Street, Rochester, NY. Also offered are furniture antiques, including a chair from Finn Juhl, as well as Oriental rugs, Aubusson carpets, Fabergé sculptures, Chinese decorative arts, and silverware. Interested collectors can view the entire catalog and register to bid online on the Cottone Auctions website.
