Inspired by the likes of van Gogh and Cezanne, surrealist artist Joan Miró’s forte was the use of vibrant colors and playful shapes. From prints and wood reliefs to collage and sculpture, Miró experimented throughout his career. In 1974, Miró created an original tapestry for New York City’s World Trade Center, which was known for its abstract design and bright colors. The tapestry was one of the most expensive works of art lost during the September 11 attacks. ‘La Meneuse de Lune,’ a 1975 lithograph by Miró, is a part of ‘Exceptional Estates Auction’ by Blackwell Auctions.
Amongst the featured list is a two-piece sliced art glass sculpture by Harvey K. Littleton. Known as the father of the studio glass movement in the United States, Littleton became the third person to receive a gold medal from the American Craft Council in 1983 to recognize his work. Antique books, including two first editions of Sherlock Holmes, are also a part of the auction. Explore the full listings and register to bid online on Blackwell Auctions.
