Collector’s Auction, Day 1

Featured on the first day of the upcoming Collector’s Auction, offered by Whitley’s Auctioneers, is an Art Deco dancer sculpture from Andre Gilbert. One of the first English sculptors to enroll at the École des Beaux-Arts, Gilbert’s experience at the university encouraged him to travel to Rome and continue his work with marble sculpture. In the available piece, Gilbert depicts a Neoclassical dancer. The artist captures the movement of the dancer, who can be seen holding a tambourine. This piece was produced around 1930.

A Royal Doulton flambé vase can also be found in the auction. Royal Doulton was founded by John Doulton in 1815 as Doulton & Co. Over time, the company was recognized for its ceramics, figurines, and character pieces. Other available items include an Art Deco allegorical lamp sculpture by M.
