An ultra-thin Audemars Piguet Gübelin (Ref. 5093) wristwatch made in the Vallée de Joux, the birthplace of Audemars Piguet, is a leading lot in the upcoming Holiday Jewels Online Auction from Hindman. The valley, nestled in the Jura Mountains of Geneva, is the birthplace of high-end Swiss watchmaking. The 18-karat white gold wristwatch offered in the auction is a rare time-only watch from Audemars Piguet, probably made in the 1950s or ‘60s. It is co-signed by the Swiss retailer Gübelin, one of the premier retailers of high-end wristwatches. The offered piece has a 35mm case diameter, textured white gold bezel, off-white dial, and black baton numerals. A scarce Knight Bachelor’s Great War group of seven awarded to Commander Sir Geoffrey E. Duveen, Royal Marines

A selection of rare Orders, Decorations, Medals, and Militaria will be offered up for sale in the upcoming Noonans auction. One of the most impressive pieces of the catalog is a set of seven Knight Bachelor’s medals and badges belonging to Commander Sir Geoffrey E. Duveen of the Royal Marines. In 1926, King George V created the badge for a British Knight Bachelor. Knights Bachelor rank below knights of chivalric orders and are the oldest type of British knights.

Another noteworthy lot in the auction is a collection of six O.B.E. medals awarded to Major C. L. Chapman of the Royal Marine Brigade for his service in the defense of Antwerp and Gallipoli. Colonial North America Henry Popple - A Map of the British Empire in America, with the French and Spanish Settlements Adjacent Thereto

British cartographer Henry Popple worked on the map of North America during 1727 – 1733. It is considered a highly significant map in cartographic history. The upcoming auction by Swann Auction Galleries will feature this large engraved map of the British Empire in America with the French and Spanish settlements adjacent thereto. With harbor plan border panels, the key map has original hand color in outline and 20 engraved map sheets (15 double-page, five full-page). It also features an engraved armorial bookplate of British politician John Plumptre. Another interesting map is John Melish’s illustration of the United States with the contiguous British and Spanish possessions. The massive-sized map is segmented and mounted to the original linen back with silk edging. It tidily folds into original marbled paper self-wrappers. The Scottish mapmaker is celebrated for publishing some of the foremost maps of the US.
