Reed & Barton Silverware Set and Edward Hald Orrefors Fish Graal Lead SJ Auctioneers’ Upcoming Sale
Dec 11, 2022 16:00 ESTThe well-known American silverware maker Reed & Barton introduced Francis to the first, sterling silver tableware pattern in 1906. Designed by Ernest Meyer, a French silversmith, this pattern is distinctive compared to usual flatware designs. Francis the first comprises 15 fruit and flower clusters with detailed designs. A Reed & Barton set of Francis the first Sterling flatware is a key highlight of the upcoming sale by SJ Auctioneers. The set comprises 72 pieces of silverware and comes with a green zip-up box with a fabric top. Another noteworthy lot is a Gorham mixed metals Y50 sterling silver holder. The copper jardiniere vase with applied 3D strawberry plant and spider retains its original patina.
The sale also features a striking fish-graal glass vase signed “Edward Hald Orrefors”. It has a clear glass decorated with motifs of a fish school swimming underwater. The flora and seaweed designs are overlaid with a thick glass layer. The fish-graal technique of glassmaking was introduced in the 20th century by Swedish sculptor Edward Hald for Orrefors.
