Zeitgeist Offers Maison Desny Centerpiece, Daum Glass This December

This early December fine art and collectibles sale, presented by Zeitgeist Gallery LLC, will particularly highlight a silver-plated bronze centerpiece designed by Maison Desny. The Parisian brand enjoyed a prolific but short existence during the late 1920s and early 30s. It embraced avant-garde styles and architectural elements. The available Maison Desny centerpiece displays those qualities with its half-moon form and short legs that evoke bridges and roads. Other notable lots include a matching clock and chandelier set from Ferdinand Barbedienne, a 19th-century French metalworker known for his bronze decorative art and reproductions. Executed in the Napoleon III style, the available garniture features cloisonné enamel and ormolu details. 

Other key lots in the auction include an acid-cut box from Daum. This partially gilded box from circa 1930 includes a signature along the base. Working at the forefront of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements, Daum glassmakers constantly experimented with their styles and methods. The available box shows delicate flowers and leaves in relief, drawing the eye to the thin linework. Bidders can also consider an oil painting by José María Mijares, a Cuban visual artist associated with the artist group Los Diez Pintores Concretos, as well as a 1950s-era calla lily Italian lamp.
