Work by French Impressionists Eugène Boudin and Georges D’Espagnat to Cross Akiba Antiques’ BlockDec 06, 2022 12:00 EST
One of the first French artists to paint outdoors, Eugène Boudin was an early source of inspiration for Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Claude Monet. Boudin captured airy landscapes and street scenes, often with a delicate light blue palette. Among the highlights of Akiba Antiques’ latest auction is an oil painting signed by Eugène Boudin and dating back to circa 1894. Resting in an elaborate gilt frame, the piece shows a group of sailboats along a dock. Another notable French artist featured in the catalog is Georges D’Espagnat. He was a Post-Impressionist artist who rejected a formal education from the École des Beaux-Arts and instead learned from observing Old Master paintings. The available D’Espagnat painting depicts a young woman sitting with two children in a field, each absorbed by the objects in their hands.
Beyond fine art, this auction features an antique Meissen porcelain lidded urn covered in delicately sculpted flowers and foliage. Along the base, a cherub extends a benevolent hand. Collectors can also consider a bronze cat sculpture from Nano Lopez, a 1973 Romanée-Conti Burgundy wine with intact labels, sets of Gorham sterling silver flatware, and more.
