A 1966 Rolex for Tiffany & Co., GMT Master, “Pepsi,” Ref 1675 is a key highlight of the upcoming Fine Estate auction. The black dial is round with luminous dot, triangle, and rectangle hour markers, white outer minutes track, and small arrow GMT hands. Nadeau’s Auction Gallery to Offer Morgan Silver Dollars, Franciscan “Indigo” Porcelain Dinnerware Set, and More

Three Morgan Silver Dollars

A set of Three Morgan Silver Dollars is among the highlights of the latest Contemporary and Antique Furnishings, Art and Decorative Accessories sale from Nadeau’s Auction Gallery. Symbolizing the Old West, the Morgan Silver Dollar is a testament to American ingenuity and entrepreneurship. As a result of the controversy surrounding whether the United States economy should be based on a “gold standard” or a gold-silver bimetallic system during the early 19th century, Morgan Silver Dollars were created. Lady Liberty appears on the obverse of the coin in a left-facing close-up portrait. She is surrounded by thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and the phrase “E Pluribus Unum” (among many, one). Her headband declares “Liberty,” while she wears the “Phrygian Crown” (as given by ancient Romans to freed slaves), representing freedom of thought. To symbolize the reconciliation between the North and South following the Civil War, cotton and wheat are displayed above the crown. Liberty’s neck is inscribed with a small “M” to honor George T. Morgan, the designer.

Bidders can also consider a 144-piece Franciscan masterpiece collection of porcelain dinnerware in the indigo pattern. Franciscan Ware, which first appeared in 1934 as Franciscan Pottery, was manufactured in Glendale, California by Gladding-McBean and Company. Additional items of interest in this sale include a Mary Lou Higgins signed necklace, a pair of silvered candlestick wall sconces, and a large television cabinet in three parts. Apple-1 Computer Signed by Steve Wozniak

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, inventors of Macintosh computers and the brand the world today knows as Apple, changed the world with their innovations. An Apple-1 acquired by the current owner in 1980 at the Computer Hobbyist Show in Framingham, Massachusetts is available in the Apple, Jobs, Computer Hardware sale, presented by RR Auction. Don Van Vliet (American, 1941-2010) Day Barrette

Two Early Lynne Drexler Paintings to Sell at Barridoff Auctions This Summer

Lynne Drexler (Am. 1928-1999), Keller Fair Racetrack 1959, Oil on canvas, unframed

Leading the upcoming Summer 2023 International Fine Art Sale from Barridoff Auctions are two paintings by American Abstract Expressionist artist Lynne Drexler. She was a promising young artist who studied under Hans Hofmann and Robert Motherwell in the 1960s. Despite achieving commercial success, Drexler was often overshadowed by her male contemporaries. Her work began to resurface in 2022, when several of her paintings sold for over $1 million with Christie’s. Available in this auction is Drexler’s Keller Fair Racetrack, an early work from 1959. The oil on canvas is dominated by lush shades of pink, red, and orange, arranged in abstract smudges that suggest a field of flowers. Also available is Meadow’s Edge, a 1967 painting that features yellow swirls and detailed Pointillist sections.

Several paintings by Modernist artist Bo Bartlett are also on offer. Bartlett specializes in realistic paintings that contain unexpected or even magical elements. The subjects in his paintings often appear in unusual positions or in a slightly peculiar context, giving the viewer pause. Notable in this sale is Bartlett’s The Landlord’s Daughter, a 1995 oil on canvas painting showing a young woman sitting in a bathtub. A dress hangs on the red wall behind her. In Bartlett’s HOBO (After Annigoni), which is also available with Barridoff Auctions, a man sleeps between the roots of a tree. Additional works by Rolph Scarlett, Dahlov Ipcar, Frances Hewitt, and others will be available.
