Mod 1862 Police .36 Cal Revolvers by Samuel Colt and Figurative Sculptures by Frederick E. Hart Lead Blackwell Auctions’ Upcoming SaleAug 19, 2023 12:00 EDT
Designed by Samuel Colt, the Colt Model 1862 police pistol is a cap-fired, muzzle-loading, single-action revolver, manufactured at the company’s factory in Hartford, Connecticut (1861 – 1873). The pistols were purchased by officers during the Civil War as a “back up gun.” A pair of Model 1862 police .36 caliber revolvers is a key highlight of the upcoming sale from Blackwell Auctions. They come with a dual-fitted period case with accessories, including flask, oiler, bullet mold, and a pack of Colt bullets. Another striking lot is a pair of bronze figurative sculptures with acrylic/ Lucite bases. Titled Ascent to Victory, the work was designed by Frederick E. Hart. The American sculptor created several public monuments and other artworks. Without much formal training, he acquired hands-on experience, honing his skills under master artisans.
An Eero Saarinen Knoll oval Tulip dining set leads the furniture listings. The dining table is accompanied by six complementing chairs. While the table is designed with a rosewood top and black base, the black chairs have cream leather cushions. Both table and chairs have pedestal bases and original Saarinen/Knoll 1957 metal etched name plates.
