Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corporation was a prominent jukebox manufacturer during the ‘Golden Age.’ Founded in 1927 by David Cullen Rockola, the American company was initially known for its coin-operated machines. The upcoming auction, offered by Leland Little, will present a Rock-Ola Tempo II jukebox manufactured in 1960. This Model 1478 jukebox remains popular for its car-like appearance with fins and a window screen. It holds forty 45 rpm records potentially belonging to an old Chapel Hill restaurant.

The re-introduction of the vacuum tube as a primary device for amplification was a significant development from Audio Research. Popularly known as tanzanite, the blue and violet variety of zoisite is found exclusively in Tanzania. The gemstone came to be named after the country where it was discovered. While many paintings represent the outer world, Abstract works tend to represent emotions or give a form to inner states and moods. Cy Twombly particularly embraced abstraction after touring the Mediterannean. Many of his works figuratively expressed his internal emotions and ideas. One of Twombly’s untitled paintings from 1965 will be featured in the upcoming Post War and Contemporary Art auction, presented by Hindman. Boucheron, a multinational jewelry brand, was founded in 1858. The jewelry house was among the first to explore techniques such as plique-à-jour enamel and various combinations of gold and steel, winning it a gold medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1867. In 1837, Clichy became the second French manufacturer of glass paperweights. The company used boracic glass, which made their paperweights lighter than those of their main competitor, Baccarat. Among the highlighted lots in the upcoming Fine Arts, Antiques, & Collectibles auction, presented by Kodner Galleries, is a Clichy paperweight. The green and white latticework on the weight creates a striped effect.
Beyond decorative art, collectors can also consider a painting by Austrian artist Hans Zatzka. He was primarily known for his commissioned work within churches. Included in the sale is a stainless Colt Anaconda revolver with black hard rubber grips. The double-action revolver was manufactured in 1992 by Colt’s Manufacturing Company. The sale also offers a knife initially created in the early 19th century for Jim Bowie, an American pioneer and fighter in the Texas Revolution. The large sheath knife has a nickel-plated handle stamped with an eagle as well as mother-of-pearl inlays. Known as a painter, muralist, product designer, and toymaker, KAWS is a noted feature of the 20th-century art world. In 1999, KAWS visited Japan, where he created his signature Companion toy. Following its success, the Companion became a recurring figure in KAWS’ work. The upcoming Urban Art Monthly Online Auction, presented by Heritage Auctions, features several pieces by KAWS. One is titled Dissected Companion, a wooden and fiber-reinforced plastic version of the character. It has large gloved hands and an X across one eye. An American silver, copper, and antler eight-light candelabrum is a highlight of Christie’s upcoming English & European 18th & 19th Century Furniture, Ceramics, Silver & Works of Art auction. The piece has an oval form with an undulating rim bordered in silver and terminating in leafy scrolls. Animal heads are applied to either side of the copper body; both are surrounded with boughs of pine.
