Among the top lots is a lithograph by Spanish Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, titled David’s Mourning at the Death of Saul. Starting in the 1950s, Dalí’s paintings were dominated by supernatural themes revealing his fascination with spirituality. The available work was published between 1967 and 1969 by Rizzoli-Mediolani in the Bible vulgatæ. In this piece, Dalí depicts David grieving over King Saul’s death. Despite its faint expression, David’s face reflects his sorrow and pain over losing the king. Toward the top right corner, a guardian angel stands close to David. It is dated and signed on the right margin of the plate.

Another notable fine artwork in the catalog is a 1969 color screenprint on Rives woven paper by American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. This piece from Roy Lichtenstein’s The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is composed in a circular pattern. The poster is primarily colored in black, red, green, and yellow. The abstract design is in the Lichtenstein style of “comic book” and incorporates Ben-Day dots. Lichtenstein created this image as part of his very first solo exhibition and as a poster. 1965 Ernie Barnes Painting of Willie Mays, Andrew Jackson Signed Document Available at SCP Auctions, Inc

The latest 2024 Fall Premier timed auction from SCP Auctions, Inc. offers over 600 lots of memorabilia associated with history, politics, sports, music, and Hollywood. Leading this auction is an original oil on canvas painting of Willie Mays by Ernie Barnes. This Ernie Barnes piece portrays Willie Mays watching a home run sail into the night sky while wearing his San Francisco Giants Road uniform. The imposing presence of Mays and his follow-through are rendered in Barnes’ signature style. Mays’ 1965 MVP season was the perfect topic for Barnes to paint as a former professional athlete. Wiederseim Associates, Inc. to Offer Soloman Parke Tall-Case Clock, Henri Manguin Artwork, and More

A tall case clock in cherry from Soloman Parke leads the upcoming ANNUAL THANKSGIVING SALE, presented by Wiederseim Associates, Inc. Based in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Solomon Parke began making clocks in Philadelphia in 1791 and continued until 1822. The available example is a tall case clock from the Chippendale period of the 1800s, inlaid with lighter wood and a white pine secondary. In addition, the timepiece features tulip-carved finials, a moon dial with Roman numerals and eight-day brass movement, a weight-driven timer, a striker, fluted quarter columns, and two keys. There are three wooden finials on the bonnet as well as swan’s neck pediments. Also available is a James Edwards mahogany bracket clock from the 18th century. Clocks by Edwards embody the Victorian era, as they are not only elegantly crafted but also exceptionally original. The available mahogany bracket clock features brass mounts, a pull repeater, a dial with automaton figures, and pineapple finials. 

Several fine artworks will be on offer at this event, including an oil-on-wood panel painting by French painter Henri Manguin, titled Still Life of Flowers. An important figure in the Fauvist movement, Manguin incorporated bright pastel hues into his paintings to reflect Impressionism, depicting colorful Mediterranean scenes and lush vegetation. A rare five-gallon stoneware jar with blue floral decoration is also available. It is marked “C. W. Braun, Buffalo, N.Y.” Braun owned the Heiser pottery in Buffalo between 1857 and 1896. Among the top lots is a mixed media on paper painting by German-born American artist Peter Max. Titled Without Borders, the work shows a boat gliding toward the Amazon River as the sun disappears behind a lush landscape. This is an Expressionistic, vibrant painting on canvas exemplifying the artist’s passion for environmental causes. Peter Max has been contributing to environmental issues for most of his life through his creative work. The offered piece was painted for Ted Turner’s documentary Without Borders to raise awareness about the environment, the Amazon, and major rivers. An oil on canvas painting titled Cascades by Hungarian-American abstract artist Martin Friedman is among the top lots of Sheafer + King Modern’s upcoming Modern + Contemporary Art and Design auction. In this abstract work, colored objects are layered over a tranquil landscape with a faint pink figure at the forefront. The painting is framed in black wood and signed “Martin Friedman.” The artist was best known for his paintings of abstract landscapes and illustrations. Imaginary landscapes by Friedman possess a soft edge that gives them an illusion of floating in mist. However, Friedman’s paintings are vibrantly colored and always highlight the sky as a dominant feature. Another key fine art lot in the catalog is a 1980 casein painting by American artist Gerald G. Fall Coeur d’Alene Art Auction Features Works by Thomas H. Benton, John Fery

This November, a rich collection of Western and American art from artists of the past and present is available at the Coeur d’Alene Art Auction. Leading the sale is a tempera on board painting from American artist Thomas Hart Benton titled Jon Boat, Buffalo River. The artist’s portrayals of Midwestern people and landscapes are characterized by rhythmical undulations, stylized images, and vivid colors. The available painting depicts three men fishing in a flat-bottomed fishing boat, called a Jon boat. In the work, Benton conveys a sense of relaxation, combining undulating patterns with vivid hues. As with many of Benton’s works, riverscapes are recurring motifs, particularly in the Ozarks region of Northwest Arkansas. Also available is a watercolor on paper by John Fery titled Sunset Over the Lake. An American landscape artist whose paintings depicted imposing Rocky Mountain scenes, John Fery was well known for his large-scale paintings.
