Hyman Bloom's Rabbi with Torah Painting
Lot #395, Hyman Bloom’s Rabbi with Torah, is estimated at $30,000-50,000.

The top lot in this signature spring sale is #395, Hyman Bloom’s (Lithuanian/American, 1913-2009) Rabbi with Torah, which is estimated at $30,000-50,000. This framed, oil and marker on canvas work is primarily rendered in grey, green, red, black, and brown and has an image size of 54 x 36″. It is signed by the artist with the initials “HB” on its lower center and has several identifying paper labels on its reverse. It is from the collection of Eastern European-American artist, art restorer, and educator Iso Papo (1925–2021) and was shown as part of the Danforth Museum of Art’s exhibit Hyman Bloom: A Spiritual Embrace.

Hyman Bloom immigrated to the United States in the 1920s with his family and settled in Boston. He always had a great interest in art and took lessons in painting and drawing starting as a youngster. His works often reflected his Jewish family traditions, concern with the human condition, and spirituality. On December 11, 2024, Bonhams in New York sold another work of Bloom’s, also named  Rabbi with Torah from circa 1995-2005, for $42,240.

Lot #440, Wilhelm Lachnit’s Portrait

Wilhelm Lachnit's Portrait
Lot #440, Wilhelm Lachnit’s Portrait Of A Woman Holding A Flower, is estimated at $8,000-12,000.

This event features about 150 lots of fine art selections. Lot #440, Wilhelm Lachnit’s (German, 1899-1962) Portrait Of A Woman Holding A Flower, is estimated at $8,000-12,000. This oil on board example was produced in 1933 and features a serious looking, older woman wearing a black jacket and a white blouse. It is signed and dated on its lower right. It is framed, with an images size of 25-1/2 x 18-1/2″. According to Tremont’s experts, due to the political climate in Germany in the early 1930s, “…the sitter and her family emigrated Germany shortly after the portrait was completed.”

Wilhelm Lachnit’s artist career was very much influenced by the Nazi party, who labeled his work as degenerate. As a result, he largely stopped producing art from 1933 until the end of WWII and instead was employed as an exhibit designer. He returned to his first love, painting, in the late 1940s.  On March 2, 2024, Schmidt Kunstauktionen of Dresden, Germany sold Lachnit’s Stilleben mit Maske from 1954 for €24,000.

Fine jewelry is another key category in this sale, with over 239 lotos on offer. It is in the form of two carved coral flowers – possibly peonies or roses –  each decorated with a single black pearl surrounded by a halo of seven round cut diamonds. The flowers are mounted to a gold and platinum setting resembling a well rendered branch. It is marked on its reverse: WEBB 18K 10& IRID PLAT and measures 2-1/2″ long overall.

David Webb’s designs are noted for their remarkable attention to natural detail, and often feature nearly lifelike flora or fauna carved from natural materials as a focal point. Although Webb passed away in 1975, his company – with boutiques in New York City and Beverly Hills – remains a leader in the luxury jewelry category and a favorite brand amongst celebrities and high profile individuals worldwide. On January 2nd, 2026, Nadeau’s Auction Gallery of Windsor, CT sold a David Webb 18K gold and rock crystal monkey sculpture for $221,000.
