Yaacov Agam’s Striking Serigraph on Parchment and Dr. Seuss’ Original Drawing Come to Auction

Renowned for his optical and kinetic art, Yaacov Agam is an Israeli sculptor and experimental artist who studied in Jerusalem and Zurich. Through his exploration of geometric shapes, Agam introduced abstraction to Israeli art. Born in a devout Jewish family, he chose imagery that was deeply influenced by his religious background. The upcoming sale from Robinhood Auctions will feature one such artwork by Agam. Titled The Yaacov Agam Megillah (Scroll of Esther), it is a serigraph on parchment framed in a plexi case with handles. With abstract geometric forms, it achieves a “Relief Rhythm” that engages the viewer in varied possible compositions. The work is in constant motion as the compositions transform with movement of the viewers or change in their viewing position. The Kosher text is handwritten by a sofer. 

Another noteworthy artwork in the sale is Yertle the Turtle, an original drawing on paper by Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. The illustration depicts one of his famous characters from the eponymous picture book that criticizes Adolf Hitler and authoritarianism. Dr. Seuss was a well-known American children’s author and cartoonist with acclaimed books to his credit.
