Wyland’s Original Sea Life Works and Damien Hirst’s Limited Edition From The Empresses Series Come to Sale with Robinhood Auctions

American artist Robert Wyland’s deep-rooted connection with whales began as a teenager when he first visited Laguna Beach, California with his family. A passionate environmental activist, he is noted for his well-known public art project, Whaling Walls. This includes life-size outdoor murals, painted to bring to light the plight of whales. The upcoming sale from Robinhood Auctions will feature some of Wyland’s original sea-life works. Titled Island Time and Sunset Watch, two of them are paintings on canvas. One portrays the tail of a whale rising out of mystical sea waters, whereas the other illustrates a diving bottlenose dolphin. Both paintings include a certificate of authenticity.  

Damien Hirst’s The Empresses (H10-2 Nur Jahan) is a key highlight of the sale. The limited edition laminated giclee on aluminum composite is screenprinted with glitter. It is part of a series dedicated to significant women rulers in history. This one honors Nūr Jahān, the most powerful woman of 17th-century India. It portrays kaleidoscopic patterns inspired by the mosaic ceiling of the mausoleum the empress had designed for her parent’s tomb.
