Paul Evans Jr. (1931-1987) was a leading figure in the brutalist furniture movement of the 1960s and 70s. Teaming up with Directional Furniture, his creations of metal sculpted furniture set him apart. Evans’ 1970s Cityscape series was inspired by the Manhattan skyline, which boasted sleek, elegant surfaces.
This brings us to the Paul Evans Stalagmite coffee table featured in Day 2 of the September 2019 Fall Fine Art and Chinese Sale presented by Sarasota Estate Auction. The coffee table, that has a bronze base and smoked glass top, was part of Evans’ “Sculptured Metal Collection” for Directional Furniture.
Also included in the auction is an elegant 1930s platinum and diamond brooch with a European cut. This brooch is perfect for the best of jewelry collections. A large framed Tibetan Life of Buddha, centering around his adventures, is included in the auction. To view the entire catalog and to place a bid, visit Bidsquare today.
