The upcoming Paintings, Furniture, Decorative Arts & Fine Rugs auction offered by Alex Cooper Auctioneers will highlight an untitled work by Atsuko Tanaka. An avant-garde artist active in the 1950s and 60s, Tanaka was a member of the Gutai group in post-war Japan. Prizing individualism, concreteness, and ambiguity, this group helped influence conceptual and performance art in the following decades. Tanaka’s untitled painting available in the sale invokes the style of Jackson Pollock, connecting brightly colored circles with thin lines.
Work from the West includes lithographs of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec’s La Revue Blanche and Marc Chagall’s Tribe of Benjamin Window. Several print sets from Norman Rockwell are also available, signed in pencil by the artist. Proceeds from those lots will benefit the Salvation Army. A collection of antique rugs will be offered in this auction as well, including a hand-knotted Heriz Persian rug from the 1920s. Visit Bidsquare to view the complete catalog and register to bid.
