Known as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) had a career that spanned more than seven decades. He is revered for contributing to the Cubist art movement. The Spanish artist created more than 10,000 paintings and 100,000 prints besides illustrations and ceramics in his life. Rago’s Prints + Multiples auction will be presenting Pablo Picasso’s 1962 linocut artwork titled Jacqueline au bandeau de face (Grand tête de femme). It shows the front of a woman’s face. Her hair is pulled back to reveal her mismatched features.
Also available in this sale is Andy Warhol’s Howdy Doody from the Myths series. One of the founders of the American Pop Art movement, Warhol often explored themes of death and celebrity. The artist’s early paintings had images taken from cartoons and advertisements. He eventually adopted the silkscreen printing technique for his works. The available lot is a color screenprint with diamond dust on Lenox Museum Board. This auction also offers works from renowned artists such as Donald Judd, Helen Frankenthaler, and Frank Stella.
