Turner Auctions + Appraisals is set to offer the upcoming Native American & Spanish Colonial auction. In this sale, Indigenous and European baskets, rugs, oil paintings, and jewelry will be available. Highlighted is a painting by Victor Higgins. The artist was just fifteen years old when he left his parents in Shelbyville, Indiana for the Arts Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago. After school, Higgins spent two and a half years studying in Europe. The result of his training was a varied body of figure paintings and landscapes. Featured in this auction is an oil painting by Higgins titled Madonna. The painting features a mother-figure in blue holding a child.
A Spanish Colonial vargueno is also featured in the auction. This furniture piece is a hinged chest that folds into a writing desk. The example showcased here is an 18th or 19th century vargueno that measures 17 inches high and 34 inches wide. Other items on offer include a Navajo rug, a Native American turquoise and silver squash bottom necklace, and a Paiute basket. Visit Bidsquare today to view all 236 items and to place a bid.
