Ponti was an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, artist, and publisher. His work advocated decoration in contemporary design and is recognized for standing the test of time. One lot of interest in the upcoming Jewelry, Fine Art, Midcentury, Asian, and Antique Auction, offered by Clarke Auction Gallery, is a pair of identical mid-century sculptural chests by Ponti. These walnut cabinets include four drawers with applied handles. They were designed for M. Singer & Sons in Italy.

Another key piece in the auction is a color lithograph after Pablo Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. Dated 1907, the oil painting portrays five nude women in a Spanish brothel.
