Highlighted in the Important July Fine Art, Chinese, Native American Sale is a copperplate engraving made from two maps of Virginia and Florida. This regional map, interpreted by Theodore de Bry in 1590 and 1591, is among the only surviving composite maps from this period. The piece was inspired by the work of two English and French colonists who traveled with expeditions to the New World. The second printing of T. E. Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom is also offered in this Sarasota Estate Auction event. The author was better known as Lawrence of Arabia, a British military officer who led the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Turkish Empire during World War I. This book is his autobiographical account of his experiences during the war. Also included with the book is a handwritten letter from Lawrence, signed T. E. Shaw, an alias he used during at one time.
