The upcoming Fine & Decorative Arts auction offered by Rachel Davis Fine Arts will present a variety of Asian antiques and Haitian paintings. A particular highlight is a piece by Shiko Munakata. Regarded as one of the most significant modern Japanese artists, Munakata’s woodcut titled Fish and Flower and Female Buddha will be on offer. Handmade on Kozo paper, the artist’s red stamp is visible on the woodcut.
Gorham Strasbourg sterling silver flatware is also featured. First produced around 1897, the silverware pattern features a glossy finish, a plume design, and scrollwork. The flatware in the sale includes shrimp forks, salad forks, and ice teaspoons. Also available is Alberto Giacometti’s Bust I lithograph from 1960. An Expressionist artist, Giacometti was best known for his portrayal of solitary figures. A pair of award-winning PK22 lounge chairs by Poul Kjærholm will be at auction as well. Born in Denmark, he produced the original PK22 lounge chair in 1956. The piece went on to be awarded the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale, the world’s premier design fair.
