The upcoming February Eclectic Auction presented by Garth’s Auctioneers & Appraisers offers an array of furniture, firearms, stoneware, collectibles, and more. Available in the sale is a breech-loading rifle by J.H. Hall. In 1811, New England gunsmith John H. Hall patented his newly developed breech-loading rifle. Eight years later, he signed a contract with the U.S. War Department to produce 1,000 of the rifles. Hall’s firearms were ahead of their time and were adopted in large numbers by the army. The present example is an 1832 model with a walnut stock and leather flask.
A Victorian inlaid drop front desk is another key lot of the auction. This 19th-century ebonized mahogany desk includes four drawers, paneled ends, and bun feet. The drawer tops have floral motifs and line inlays. A framed print of Napoleon is also among the notable lots. The central image of the Emperor is surrounded by an outer border of smaller portraits. Many lots of stoneware are also presented, including cobalt crocks and jugs. Explore the full listings and register to bid online on Invaluable
