Purvis Young’s Sail Boat Scene with Sharks is one of the notable lots in the upcoming Estate Jewelry, Art, & Collectibles Auction. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Young began admiring the textures of found objects in his early career. The self-taught artist combined paintings with found materials that ranged from envelopes to discarded doors, mirrors, and even television sets. Through his collaged paintings, he created works that discussed racial prejudice, poverty, and suffering. He once said, “I’d just like to see peace. Then maybe I’d [take] my brush and throw it away.”
The upcoming Kodner Galleries event will present over 300 pieces of fine art, jewelry, decorative art, watches, and Asian art. Included is a crystal Jinlong dragon from Swarovski. The dragon motif is often associated with the sovereignty of Chinese emperors. Produced in 2009, the limited edition piece was designed by Heinz Tabertshofer. Bidders can also find a Rolex Daytona ref. 116520 watch. Dated between 2001 and 2002, this chronograph wristwatch has a stainless steel bracelet and a blue dial.
