In the 1920s, Satchel Paige started his career in the Negro Leagues. However, it was only after rules discriminating against Black American players were abolished that he was allowed to enter the major leagues. Shortly after, Paige became regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of baseball, with over 2,000 wins during his 30-year career. A baseball signed by Satchel Paige along with ten other members of the Miami Marlins team will cross the auction block in the upcoming Winter Exceptional Estates Auction, presented by Blackwell Auctions.
Collectors will also find a photograph from Henri Cartier-Bresson. A French photographer, Cartier-Bresson dabbled in painting in his early years. But in 1932, he purchased a Leica camera, which shifted his interests to photography. Cartier-Bresson was primarily known for his documentary style. Many believe his black-and-white images shaped modern street photography. “For me the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously,” he said, explaining his approach to photography. The available piece from Henri Cartier-Bresson shows a young boy walking down the street with a content expression. View other notable lots and register to bid online on Bidsquare.
