    The Post-War and Contemporary themed sale at Christie's will showcase works from some of the giants in these categories. The auction starts with an idealized dream of childhood joy in Three Ice Cream Cones by Wayne Thiebaud. It is a 1964 oil painting of the classic Neapolitan trifecta of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream cones. The play of color and shadows make everyday treats a treat for the eyes. The sale features work by leading 20th-century masters such as Roy Lichtenstein, Helen Frankenthaler, Frank Stella, Alexander Calder, and Andy Warhol, alongside celebrated avant-garde artists of the 21st century ranging from Jeff Koons and Jack Whitten to Shara Hughes and Nicolas Party. The sale has been divided into three sessions on the same day. The second session will highlight works from the collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann. Their newly established organization, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide, will benefit from this auction. This section will highlight post-war and contemporary artists like Brice Marden, Martin Kippenberger, and Mike Bidlo, as well as works of  Pop Art and Neo-Expressionism from the 1980s. The third session will particularly feature The Half of the Painting #8 by Ilya Kabakov. He is a Russian-American artist born in 1933 in the Ukrainian SSR.     5th of May Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art Will Offer Frans Synders Painting

    Baroque artist Frans Synders is one of the most noted 17th-century painters who often depicted animals in his paintings. Hunting scenes and animals in combat were among his recurring subjects. The upcoming 5th of May Sale of Modern & Contemporary Art, hosted by Dane Fine Art, will make Synders’ oil on canvas work available for bidding. This piece shows a dog eating meat while two others growl with envy.  One of the top lots in the auction is Mr. Brainwash’s Watch Out!. The 2019 piece shows a man terrified of a red dog-like figure. French artist Thierry Guetta, famously known as Mr. Brainwash, is a Pop artist and videographer. He is celebrated for his large-scale art installations.     An upcoming sale of Modern + Contemporary Art, Design & Luxury from Palm Beach Modern Auction features a monumental portrait painting by Spanish artist Manolo Valdés. Like many of Valdés’ others, the artwork, titled Jacqueline, takes inspiration from both Pop Art and material art. Larger-sized graphic and sculptural pieces that received critical and public acclaim were particularly prevalent during the second half of the artist’s career.  Other works of contemporary art are also on offer. An available Robert Longo charcoal study drawing titled National Trust is said to represent the darker side of America’s past.     Christie’s Presents South Asian Modern and Contemporary Art by Jamil Naqsh, M. F. Husain

    Jamil Naqsh is regarded as one of the most influential contemporary artists of the 20th century. Born in Uttar Pradesh in 1938, he gained national as well as global recognition. Several of his works can be characterized by sensual subjects and figurative compositions. Inspired by Pablo Picasso and Italian sculptor Marino Marini, Naqsh painted in earth tones, including beige and brown. The upcoming auction of South Asian Modern and Contemporary Art, offered by Christie’s, will highlight an untitled oil painting of a woman by Naqsh. The nude figure can be seen laying on the floor beside a pigeon.  Maqbool Fida Husain was born in Pandharpur in 1915. Husain was a self-taught artist who began earning in his early days by painting movie billboards in India. With time, he became a renowned artist known for his vibrant Cubist paintings. His artworks combine Modernism with traditional Indian motifs. Available in this sale is a work from M. F. Husain. It shows a blue-clothed person riding a horse.     EHC Fine Art’s Winter Contemporary Art & Editions Features Work by Yves Klein, Yoshitomo Nara, and Others

    Highlighted in EHC Fine Art’s upcoming Winter Contemporary Art & Editions Sale is an untitled Yves Klein print featuring the artist’s signature International Klein Blue (IKB) color. The 2015 piece is one in an edition of only 50 and based on the artist’s 1961 original. Hand-numbered in pencil, this print has been certified by the Yves Klein Archives. Also found in the auction is a rare Yoshitomo Nara poster. The 2012 sales promotional poster for teachers was produced by Matsumura Book Publishing Co. and never released to the public. The 33-inch by 23-inch poster features the profile of a young woman with brown hair and matching eyes in front of a gradient-pink background and Japanese lettering near the bottom right corner. Other notable lots include a Barbara Kruger American flag print from 2020, a 2012 print from Yayoi Kusama, and a Jasper Johns facsimile print.     Mary Bauermeister Tower and Keith Haring Lithographs Among Top Lots in Rago’s Post War + Contemporary Art Auction

    “Art, in its complexity, approaches truth,” states Mary Bauermeister (b. 1934), one of the most influential and accomplished artists of the 21st century. Alu Tower 3 by Bauermeister is soon coming to auction at Rago. Bauermeister is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and performer. She was born and raised in Germany where she began her career with charcoal and pencil drawings. She studied art under Helene Nonné-Schmidt and Max Bill, later dabbling in photography. A 1971 ink, glass, glass lens, stone, painted wood, resin, and aluminum construction by Bauermeister will be available in the Post War + Contemporary Art Auction this March.  Free South Africa (1985) by Keith Haring is a notable lot among lithographs. It is a set of three color lithographs from the edition of 60 published by Edition Schellmann. Haring (1958 – 1990) was an artist who believed in the ideology of accessibility in society. He used striking imagery on political and social campaigns to create awareness of various issues. Haring’s mural on the western side of the Berlin Wall is one of his most notable public works.     Living Contemporary Auction at Rago Will Highlight George Nelson’s Marshmallow Sofa

    Rago’s upcoming Living Contemporary auction will offer a Marshmallow sofa by George Nelson. After working as an associate editor at Architecture Forum and Fortune magazine, Nelson eventually left to design furniture at Herman Miller’s company. Following the launch of his first collection in 1947, Nelson became a leading figure in the design industry. The offered lot is a sofa designed by Irving Harper and George Nelson in 1954-56. Its seats are created from upholstered circles of purple, pink, and orange. The sofa’s composition illustrates the iconography of Atomic Age design. “The Marshmallow is a precursor to the geometric purity and playfulness of Pop,” notes the lot essay.  Another lot of interest is Jean de Merry’s Cassetto cabinet. Founded in 2001 by Christian Darnaud-Maroselli and Jean de Merry, the company is known for its high-quality materials and craftsmanship. Most of its designs represent Art Deco-inspired works.     Contemporary Art From the Bass Archives on Offer With Lion and Unicorn

    The Bass Museum in Miami Beach spotlights international contemporary art from mid-career and established artists. Over 250 works from the museum are up for bid in the auction of Contemporary Art – Archives from the Bass Museum auction, presented by Lion and Unicorn. A portion of the auction proceeds will benefit the museum’s John and Johanna Bass Acquisitions Fund. Among the featured paintings in the auction is one by Sam Newton, a member of the popular Florida Highwaymen group. The work shows a Florida wetland landscape and was executed using only a palette knife. There are several architecturally related items in the sale, including a sketch by contemporary architect Frank Gehry. The sketch is a study of a “New Gehry House” and was created as a special proof edition of ten. The print is signed by Gehry. Other lots in the sale include items by Andy Warhol: a set of nine Marilyn Monroe prints and an individual print of Elizabeth Taylor, based on a closely-cropped promotional photograph for the film Butterfield 8.     Valentine’s Day Sale of Modern and Contemporary Art Features Frans Snyders Dog Painting

    Dane Fine Art’s upcoming auction, the Valentines Sale of Modern and Contemporary Art, features over 1,000 lots by notable artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Louis Icart, and others. The event highlights a painting, titled Dogs Gnawing Joints of Meat, by Frans Snyders. A Flemish painter, Snyders was known for his lively portraits of animals and still lifes using bold colors and realistic details. Snyders created the available painting in the 1600s. It remains in excellent condition.  Another artwork leading the event is a Frank Stella painting titled Referendum 70. It features overlapping geometric shapes in different colors and belongs to a limited edition collection of 200. A Pierre-Auguste Renoir lithograph from 1919 is available as well.     Rago Spotlights Claudio Bravo, Carmen Herrera, and Other Post War and Contemporary Artists

    With an oeuvre of over 500 artworks, Chilean artist Claudio Bravo is best known for his hyper-realistic depictions of paper bags. Inspired by the imagery of paper packages placed on the table, Bravo also painted everyday objects like aluminum cans, helmets, and other packaging. The upcoming timed auction of Post War and Contemporary Art, presented by Rago, will showcase Claudio Bravo’s Untitled Work (Bolsas de Papel). The 1969 piece is a pastel and gouache on paper that captures the color and texture of paper packaging.  Cuban American artist Carmen Herrera’s minimalist artwork is available at the event. The untitled 2013 acrylic on canvas is covered entirely in red with two rectangular patches of blue at the corners.
