Arman’s ‘Accumulations’ Sculpture and Andy Warhol Screenprints Featured in Upcoming Dane Fine Art Event

Venus Hairspray By Arman.

Object artist Arman was famous for creating unorthodox sculptures utilizing everyday things. The Nouveau Réalisme co-founder was known to create sculptures known as ‘Accumulations.’ These works were inspired by the Dada movement. Arman’s ‘Accumulations’ sculptures utilize general objects like spoons, hairbrushes, or toy cars. He destroys these objects and assembles them in a way that gives them a new perspective. The upcoming auction from Dane Fine Art presents a sculpture titled Venus Hairspray by Arman. The 1996 bronze sculpture has a silver and blue patina. Another highlight is a 3D screenprint and paper collage titled Tidal Basin by Andy Warhol. It was created for a 1983 Washington Post magazine cover. The auction also showcases Warhol’s screenprints of popular subjects like Campbell’s Soup cans and Marilyn Monroe.

Also featured is a 1995 book consisting of hand-printed intaglios by printmaker Helen Frankenthaler. Valentine for Mr. Wonderful consists of seven intaglios of lithographed poems and images. The handmade paper folio reflects the artist’s interest in Color Field painting and Abstract Expressionism. Items by street artists Mr. Brainwash and BAMBI are also available. Bidders can consider works by Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Louis Icart, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Joan Miró in this sale. German 800 Reichsmark Silver Service Set & Hermès Silk Scarves Shine at Showplace’s Backstage Auction

German Silver Neoclassical Part Dinner Service

A German 800 silver dinner service in the Neoclassical style is among the leading lots in Showplace’s upcoming auction. Each piece has “WTB” for Wilhelm T. Binder of Schwäbisch Gmünd and an “800” marking. They also bear the Reichsmark of the crescent moon and crown. The set comprises six dinner forks, one luncheon fork, and seven dinner knives. Before 1886, German law required silver to be marked “800,” and sometimes “Sterling Germany.” Silver pieces had to be at least 800/1,000-coin standard in purity for export to England and America. By 1888, individual city marks had to be replaced by the compulsory national mark or Reichsmark made of a crescent moon and crown, like the ones on the available silver articles.

An Hermès square silk twill scarf in the “Farandole” pattern by Caty Latham, decorated with butterflies in pastel blues and pinks, is another notable lot in the sale. The history of Hermès silk scarves dates back to its founder, Thierry Hermès, a harness and saddle maker. His love for horse riding is apparent in the earliest pieces of silk scarves the company created in 1937. The motifs have always centered around horses and horse-driven carriages. Each color is added layer upon layer with a technique invented in Japan in the 12th century. The sale also offers jewelry, fine art, decorative art and furniture. American painter Gertrude Abercrombie (1909 – 1977) was renowned for her enigmatic self-portraits and nocturnal landscape paintings. The imagery in her works evoked emotions of fear, anxiety, and loneliness. One of her artworks, titled The Mysterious Stranger (Man, House, and Lady), is a key highlight of this upcoming Hindman auction. This lot featuring a man, a woman, and a black cat characterizes Abercrombie’s Surrealistic style.

Another noteworthy artwork in the sale is an oil on linen canvas by American artist Ed Paschke (1939 – 2004). Heads in Love illustrates his focus on eye-popping paintings. Paschke made portrait-based art of cultural icons and often relied on photo imagery drawn directly from mass media. Rare British India Presidency Coins Featured in Upcoming Sale by Noonans

The King Of English East India Company Coins – The Celebrated Bombay Gold Mohur, 1765.

The British India coinage falls under the East India Company and Imperial issues. The East India Company (EIC) coins were categorized into Madras, Bombay, and Bengal presidencies, minting individual coins until 1835. The upcoming DNW Auctions sale presents rare British India coins. A highlight is a Bombay gold Mohur from 1765. The 15 rupees coin features the East India Company arms on one side. Its reverse features floral motifs with the inscription ‘Bombay 1765’ in the middle. Termed among the King of English East India Company coins, it is a rare specimen. The available Bombay presidency coin contains pure 24-karat Venetian gold. It belongs to the early authenticated gold coin specimens during the silver coin shortage.

Showcased is a 1677 Bombay pattern rupee. It is a rare silver rupee pattern in the name of Charles II. The ‘Rupee of Bombay’ was to be struck in Bombay in 1678. However, the project failed due to the demise of coiner John Morrice and the inefficiencies of George Bower’s dies. Also featured is a 1784 silver pattern rupee from John Prinseps’ coinage from the Pulta mint in Calcutta. The coin bears the name of Shah Alam II in Persian. Princeps’ coinage is rare as it failed local adoption, ceasing production in 1784. The Puddester Collection also presents a Bengal presidency recruiting ticket, the first Bombay presidency silver coin, and an 1830 gold mohur made from steam-powered equipment at the Calcutta mint. Interested collectors can explore the entire catalog and register to bid online by visiting DNW Auctions.

Lee Krasner’s Abstract Composition & Sanyu’s Vibrant Lilies Highlighted in 500 Gallery’s Upcoming Auction

Attributed to Lee Lenore Krasner: Abstract Composition

Lee Krasner once tore her drawings and threw them on the floor because she hated them. When she saw the scattered pieces again, they looked better to her. Abstract drawings and collages eventually became her specialty. 500 Gallery will soon present Abstract Composition, an oil painting by Lee Krasner, in the upcoming Impressionist, Folk, Pop, and Modern Art auction. Lenore “Lee” Krasner was born on October 27, 1908. She married artist Jackson Pollock. Krasner’s training in depicting human anatomy was more formalized, which inspired Pollack, while Krasner’s art became more unstructured and intuitive like her husband’s. Krasner is now viewed as a transitional figure within abstraction who connected early-20th-century art with the new ideas of post-war America.

A vibrant display of delicate flowers painted in the manner of Sanyu (1901 – 1966) is a notable lot in the sale. Vas de Lys sur Fond Marron (A vase of lilies with red ground) is an oil on Masonite painting. Sanyu came from a wealthy family of silk-weavers, which allowed him to practice art from a very young age. Sanyu also had the opportunity to learn calligraphy from Zhao Xi, a Confucian master of the late Qing dynasty. His early works ranged from nudes and animals to flowers. Minimal compositions and audacious colors unite all of his works. Other notable artists represented in the sale include Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Jean Cocteau, Paul Gauguin, Wassily Kandinsky, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The sale also features a fine selection of paintings, works on paper, and collectibles. Visit Bidsquare to find the listed items and browse other online auctions.
